A fun little gun store moron story

When one encounters un-knowledgeable salesclerks, hears misinformation, general silliness, irrelevance or stupidity from retail clerks in stores when one is NOT looking at, or shopping for, guns or ammunition (say, maybe, electronics, household appliances, hardware or pornographic videos), does one usually go on-line to post accounts of all these conversations on internet forums?

Actually, when it comes to computer hardware, yes. I can guarantee you this conversation happens whenever there is a knowledgeable hobbyist group that has to deal with uneducated merchants.

And here is where he takes the cake, the then discussed why ruger should make a model with a hollow space in the bottom of the grip so you could slide in a NAA Mini as a "back up gun"

My knowledge of basic revolver design isn't exactly stellar, but isn't that where the hammer spring is located?

If you think a lot of them are ignorant about guns, just ask them a legal question!!!!

Sometimes you don't even need to ask a legal question and you still get legally wrong answers.

Just two days ago I had a gun store employee tell me it was illegal to sell guns not manufactured in the USA.....while I was inspecting a Norinco SKS Paratrooper. I had asked what country an AK clone next to it had come from.

At a different gun store a few months ago I was looking for a holster for my CZ P01. Guy there said he didn't sell anything for CZ because if it breaks you have to take it back to Czechoslovakia...AND you can't ship it so you have to hand carry it by boat there and back...to have it repaired.

That's nothing!

Where I live you need to take a pistol course as a requirement for a concealed pistol permit. During the course I took, the couple of instructors showed us a few pistols; autos were a colt woodsman, a ruger Mk1, and a Colt 1911, the revolvers were a single action ruger and double action S&W. After they had a slide show that showed lots of different pistols.

The one instructor narrating the slide show called just about everything a 1911 or a luger, didn't matter if it was a high power or a 1911 or a sig 220, they were all being called a 1911 and the narration went by showing a sequence of slides with a ruger mk1, S&W model 10, a luger, a high standard bullseye pistol.....and the instructer went on "here we have luger, a smith and wesson,.. another luger, and another luger....." I just sat there and rolled my eyes as these guys already jumped on a middle aged guy for correcting them.

If I buy an inappropriate sauté pan from Williams-Sonoma, I may make a less than stellar meal, due to its size or composition. If a poorly trained clerk in a retail establishment selling firearms manages to convince someone that a 4" S&W Model 10 stoked with wad-cutter rounds is sufficient protection for trail-walking in rural coastal Alaska, said customer may wind up one with the bear scat.

Yeah, but the Williams-Sonoma clerk knows you'll be back if he sells a defective product. Someone selling a defective grizzly defense system, can be fairly certain that won't be a problem. :D

I'm going to open up a gun store with a friend or 2 so we can actually help people and not tell people stuff like " .243 and .30-06 are about the same round"

Wul, they are.... after you get done running .30-06 cases into a .243 trim die and opening up the necks with a letter C drill.

I wonder how many of my Lake City Arsenal (LC53) .243 cases I couldn't find and left in the mountains or at the range for someone to wonder about.

Oh, and I ain't so smart either. I once challenged an instructor on the legality of carrying concealed while hunting (Colorado). Boy, was my face red when I read the regs later and found it was perfectly legal. I curled up into a prenatal ball and whimpered in embarrassment and shame.

Now it can be told, because since then I have become an expert on all things firearm-related.

All things.

Everything.

Just try me.

Growing up I had a Nerf 'Secret Shot' - it fired a dart from the grip of the gun as well as the muzzle - something like the BUG inside a gun he's suggesting! Hee hee.
