I took several handguns to the range this morning. While firing my XD40 I experienced a very light recoiling shot which failed to eject. The case was bulged but not split and some unburned powder spilled out. I checked the barrel to make sure that I didn't have a squib stuck in there and it was clear.

I put the mag back in, chambered the next round, and got the same result -- a light shot which failed to eject. I checked the barrel again to make sure it was clear and was starting to wonder if I had somehow gotten a bad batch of WWB .40.

Then I looked down at the mag and a big old fat lightbulb came on. I had loaded 9mm ammo into my XD40 mag.

USER ERROR!

The dreaded 'OE' (Operator Error) shows its ugly head :scrutiny: :scrutiny: Hopefully you learn from your mistake now rather than later when it really counts! ;)

Lucky

Sounds like you got lucky twice. I only have a pair of 40's right now, but I'm looking to maybe get a 9mm. Mental note for everyone to make: Check the headstamp before loading into the mag.

I saw this happen to another shooter at a GSSF match His gun was actually functioning most of the time with the 9mm ammo, but he was getting a good number of jams. He shot a decent (not great) score on that stage.
