the "other person's gun" thought came to mind, however, I discount that because of the following reasons:
1: ordered the weapon from the company directly, as part of a package deal offered to LEO's, so it is "new".
2: the package deal is specific. It has my organizations 'everything' on it, i.e. logos, color, eching, etc. Therefore a specialty item, plus the fact that I'm likely in a small group that ordered it in 45 cal. As posted earlier, we get 40 ammo for training and qualifications. A LOT of the guys just do not want to buy ammo, so they tend to only buy 40 cal pistols.
3: ordered it in Sep '10, got it Mar '11. That's a long time to wait,, so I did what most people would do, give it some time, then call and find out what's going on. Got a general idea of when they would start/started making it.
4: so I was waiting 6-7 months for the dang thing. I did what everyone else would do,,,,, look it over look it over look it overrrrrrrrrr, eye bang it, fondle it, talk dirty to it, so forth (u know, the usual stuff). I also have 10 yrs prior mil service so I did the whole "inspect all - for all, before signing for it" thing,,,,, I can't help it. It looked new, no dings, no scratches, etc.
5: I still have this email from one of their reps, "... the single stack WITHOUT light rail, however, the factory has made them WITH light rails. If you would like to take the option with the light rail (no extra cost) we ..." blah blah blah
6: Plus, could you imagine how cheap/shady/unprofessional it is to take a used major component, clean it up, paint it, pass it of to a different customer as "new"? I'm not saying that doesn't happen, I hope it doesn't, but I'm sure it has. But somewhere along that line, someone would've said something. Or QC should've.
7: something else, I forgot for now...
So I don't think it's a used peice from someone's repair/refit/etc
