There has been an increase in sales but this is NOT a "run" on ARs. I have checked with every major dealer within 40 miles and the ONLY ones who are out of ARs are the high traffic big box stores like Cabelas and Sportsmans Warehouse.
If you want an AR, there are still PLENTY of them available.
I found a store within walking distance that had Bushmasters. I found another small gun store just barely outside of walking distance that had two Rock Rivers. I found a medium sized gun store within 10 miles that has DPMS rifles for a good price. Basically, every single small business FFL I checked still had ARs and a few AKs.
I think what is going on here is a bunch of TALK. It's not a "run" and it's not a "panic." A few purchasers are panicking but if you want an AR or AK it's not that hard if you live in a decent sized city in a fairly pro gun state.
The gun industry is not set up to handle much of an increase in sales because it is always a target of tyrants and other lawyers, and because most of society is anti gun. That's right I said it, most of society and most people in it are anti gun and even many gun owners are anti EBR (evil black rifle for the newbies). Most of the population is female and a majority, a VAST majority of men do not own an EBR. I think a majority of men are non gun owners nowadays thanks to a poisoning of our culture. Some men can be nagged out of that slumber but most cannot be once they're in it.
My assessment of the situation is that it isn't a strong enough "run" to send a strong message to obama and his crew yet. When ALL of the ARs are off the shelves THEN we can call it a "run" and a "panic." Most of the increase in sales is due to guys who are already gun owners. I'm saying this because we still need to wake up the guys we know who are spineless and say "Yea I'd love an assault rifle but my wife would kill me"
