I started out as the only one in my family interested in firearms. I had to buy my first rifle .22 bolt action mossberg behind my Dads back. My mom had never owned or fired a gun and was warry about me even taking it to a range. Eventaully after seeing me safetly handle the gun and complete a concealed carry course (though not 21 you can still take them) she started to come around. We would sneak out to the range and she would read her book while i shot. Eventaully she decided it looked sort of fun.

A month later she took a concealed carry course and bought a .38 specail revolver. Less than a week later she bought her own .22 taurus revolver. She recently bought a semi auto Smith & Wesson. But there was still the issue of my dad who was ignorant of the whole thing. He was still extremely anti-gun so we hid our firearms from him. Despite of constant statistics and me winning our gun debates my father still would not break.

Eventaully my Dad was at Cabelas and saw the sporting section and remarked how it might be fun to shoot trap up at the cabin. Within a short amount of time my mother convinced him to get an over under style shotgun for trap shooting. She also explained at Cabelas she had a concealed carry permit and several handguns in the house. Initially it was a shock but now he understands theres nothing wrong with being a gun owner. He ended up loving the fact that he had a shotgun and posed for several photos. This weekend we went up to our cabin in vermont and shot several clay pigeons and had the time of our life. Turns out he is alot better at hitting those clays than I am. He even shot my mothers .22 with me at our little paper wood chuck target.

He now knows about all the family's firearms and enjoys shooting them. What started as an anti gun family is now a firearms owning one. Perhaps the most remarkable thing is how its given us a common interest; we never used to do things as a family but now its a nice family bonding thing we dont dred. Its made us much closer as a family and safer.
