Picked up this little Savage model 23 B at my LGS a week ago. The wood caught my eye, and the bore was pristine. Then I saw where Bubba had tried to murder the poor thing. Wonder how many scopes or Iron sights he had tried to mount?

I took pity on it and took it home. I had 200 rounds of 87 grain Winchester factory ammo sitting around and I reload this caliber, which is one of my all time favorites.

Gorgeous, even with the extra holes! I always loved the oval-port Savages. Great score, bro.:D

I love those Savage model 23s. I have two 23Ds in 22 Hornet and a second 23B in 25-20. I was glad to find this one because my other 23B has a crap aftermarket magazine. The original Savage mag feeds all five rounds smoothly.

Still looking for a 23C in 32-20. That is the hardest caliber to find.

I also have a Remington Model 25 in 25-20. It is well worn but it shoots accurately and the action is slick and smooth. The 25-20 is one of my very favorite calibers. I just wish the brass was a little thicker. Three or four reloads is all I seem to get from a case.

Very nice! Irons or scope?
Irons, although some Bubba obviously tried to mount a scope, or something, on the gun at some point. This is one of my 23Ds in 22 Hornet with an original Weaver model 33 scope mounted. The optics are clear, but using that scope, after being used to modern optics, is an exercise in frustration.

Any good way to mount a modern scope on one of these? Been eyeballing a 22 hornet at the gun show for several months. Such nice little rifles.

I think my Remington 121 pump 22lr was owned by that same Bubba. It came with about 8 extra holes tapped in the side of the receiver. Damn shame but it still shoots.
Nice find you got there.

I really like the .25-20 too, I have a Model 25 Remington pump and a #2 Remington Rolling block and a T/C Contender barrel in it. Got a .22 Hornet Model 23 with an old 10x Unertl Vulture scope on it. It shoots OK, I can hit a ground squirell out to 200 yards on a good day. What I have hat IS a weird little Savage is this .250 . I expand up .22-250 ammo for it but truth be told I mostly shoot .25acp in two convertors I have. It feeds them nicely and does not disturb the neighbors .

I'm jealous. I was watching one of those on GB just last week, but it wen't higher than I'll pay for a gun I can't inspect. There will be a .25-20 in my stable at some point.

Not sure if theres a 1" side mount specific for the 23 series. But theres a solid mount made for Mossberg .22s that may fit. You would have to check the receiver diameter but I'd bet they are close. You can find the mount at Havlins. Look in .22 Rifle Parts.

My first centerfire was a 23D, 22 Hornet. Miss it. I did an appraisal a couple years ago for a guy who had all four, the .22, 25-20, 22 Hornet and the 32-20.

Too cool, strange how that bolt action has a stripper clip guide.....

Tark; that is sweet except for the Bubba stuff. Luckily he didn't completely destroy it. I'm a Savage 23 series fan and I'd love to have all 4. Right now I only have a 23-D. Although I do have a Savage Model 1922 in 22lr; which was a transition model between the model 19's and the 23 series, and I missed out on a very nice 23-A a couple gun shows ago. Thanks for the pictures.

I bought my Savage 23D In 25 20 wcf several years ago with the express purpose of having it suppressed.

On the one I bought someone long ago had mounted a weaver fixed power 2X scope and a redfield Mount.

Not having any collector value I had the barrel threaded .5 X 28” and for a suppressor I use a Thompson Machine Zephyr .22 caliber can that I had made with a .300 bore (by Thompson Machine).

With 65 grain cast lead Hollow Points and 1.8 grains of Alliant red dot (velocity of about 1000 fps) it is whispering death on jackrabbits.

That Sir, is VERY odd ! It was offered in .300 Save and .250-3000 sooooo ?
The 250-3000 Savage he has is a Model 20-1926 . I've seen a couple over the years here in CNY where Savage started. Pretty rare rifle. His looks in great shape. IIRC it was the first commercial big game bolt action offered after WW1 by an American company. Everything else were based on sporterised surplus military guns. The 1926 variation came equipped with the receiver sight. Oh I forgot to add nice rifle!

I had a Remington pump in 25-20 Winchester, I bought it to go with my revolver chambered in 25-20...

I swaged jacketed bullets for them, using spent shotgun primers for the jackets and hunted small game with them. They worked pretty good.
