I have a 38 taurus ss cia revolver in great shape with box and papers, how much trade in do you think I would get towards a new 9mm? I have a new S&W 637 and no longer need nor want the taurus. I am considering Kahr, Ruger, S&W, and CZ, the requirments are has to be SS, all metal (no plastic) and be 9mm. Fell free to give my opinions, and the new 9mm will be my permanent nightstand home defense gun / range gun.

You will ALWAYS do better to sell a piece outright than trade it in. A dealer is going to want to sell it for the price that you would want to get, or close. To make money, he's going to have to give you substantially less. It's just common sense.

Sell it, and use the bucks; you'll come out way better.

I would try selling it private party first, around
here in phoenix you might get 175-200 dollars
on a trade.

My local shop keeps a copy of the latest Blue Book of Gun Values right on the counter. If someone comes in to trade in a gun, the shop owner first recommends that the person sell the gun themselves. If the seller insists, the owner (who's a real good guy) will inspect the gun, assess the condition as he sees it (90%, 70%, etc) and tell the seller, "Look it up in "the book, I'll give you 60% of the value it shows there".

Tauri don't seem to hold their value as well as others out there. That $200 seems a bit high to me...YMMV

One of my local gunshops has made the deal with me that they will sell the pistol for me and take no cut long as i put the money right back into another pistol. Bought from them of course.
