Hey guys. Feel free to tell me I'm over thinking this. I'm new to shotguns, so I wanted to ask more knowldgeabe folks out there.

In the picture, the area in question is the 'hump' of the spring, which contacts the bolt during operation. There appears to be a flat spot on it, which you can see in the picture below. Is that normal? This perceived flat spot is pretty noticeable. Main concern here is that at this rate of wear, it seems that the metal would wear to point of breakage in a couple thousand rounds.

Remington 870 express 3". Around 200 shells through the gun in total. No mods.

A little grease or oil in all the right places will stop all that wear.

The gun looks dry as a bone.

The gun is oiled thoroughly with RemOil now. I was fairly generous with applying it to all necessary areas including the ejector spring and the bolt groove it rides in. The gun was also thoroughly cleaned And oiled before the first shooting. It was never run dry.

Do you have better suggestions for lubrication?

Correct. Normal and will stop at that point.

There is no need for oil on that part and all that oil you have put in there is going to cause issues and turn to gunk.
