We've all been there, some particular type of magazine or perhaps even one specific magazine that is just a real thumb-buster to load. Well I have two of them. The first is a Savage model 64 rifle (.22LR) with one easy and two difficult to load magazines and the second is my Taurus Millennium Pro PT-140 which just seems to have a difficult to load magazine design overall.

Extensive searching failed to locate any specific "magazine loaders" for either of these guns and I was about to give up when I stumbled upon this article in About.com and suddenly there was my answer.

Sometimes I am stunned by how simple the solution to a problem can be. The "MagLoader" is essentially a one piece oval plastic ring with a stud projecting out of one side. The stud itself has a concave end which helps it to center on the round you are trying to push down into a magazine. (see either the review above or the Magloader site for pictures). There are two types, one for smaller guns (.22-.32)and one for larger calibers (.380-.45). Ordering one actually gets you a set of 3 "rings" in small, medium, and large size. Small fits my wife, medium fits me, and I may "gift" the large ones to a friend of mine.

I bought one "set" of each type and am pleased to report that I can now load my Savage and my Taurus quickly and easily. Best of all the Magloader rings are tiny and light so it's no issue at all to throw them all in my range bag so I have them with me all the time. They really make short work of reloading every magazine type I have and my various (multiple) HKS magazine loaders have been gathering dust since I got the Magloaders because of the "one size fits all" nature of the Magloaders.

In short, the Magloader is cheap, simple, and it works! A little late for a stocking stuffer, but maybe a great Valentines day "ring" for that special someone? :D

Posting in another thread reminded me that I wanted to do an update on this review.

Almost a year later and any questions I might have had about the durability of the plastic Magloader "rings" have been laid to rest. The plastic is at least as durable as the grips on my Springfield XD :D

So far the "rings" have been used to load several thousand rounds into various different caliber/style handgun magazines (and have been run through the washer at least a dozen times :p). Some of the magazines are pretty darn tight and it takes some pressure to get the last round or two in them but the "rings" show no signs of stress or failure.

I've sold or given away all of my other magazine speedloaders and just use the Magloader rings now.

Uplula is the best for 9mm to 45 IMO, very simple to load the rounds in.

Interesting, never heard of the "uplula" before now. The only spots where it seems it might not come out on top are the $33.99 pricetag, and this little disclaimer of ...
- May not load few types of mags, and mags with less than 8.0mm between their lips.
- May not load the last round in few types of mags.

It's not perfect but neither is any other mag loader I have encountered. The one you linked still required a lot of force from your thumb, but it work with most magazines.

The Uplula works with almost all 9mm to 45 magazines, it takes seconds to load a magazine, the only wait is the time it takes your spare hand to retrieve a round. Now the disadvantage is that it only works with magazines in that range, but that range is all the major pistol calibers.

The Uplula works great for getting that lost round in stubborn magazines like Glocks, and the 19th round in the SP-01 mag.

Don't misunderstand, I'm not knocking the Uplula at all, just noting some of the pro vs con of the different types.

And yes, the Magloader can require a LOT of force from your thumb, especially on a brand new magazine where you are trying to get those last two rounds in!

Sadly I can't justify buying an Uplula right now or I'd do a review on it as well. <sigh>.

UpLULA Universal Pistol Magazine Loader; Received my universal magazine loader from MidwayUSA yesterday so I practiced loading mags using dummy rounds...Man this product is AMAZING!!!! Loaded mags over and over again using this product and it's BETTER THAN advertized; fast loading, easy to use, and does it ever save wear and tear on your thumb!

The UpLULA Universal Pistol Magazine Loader (in my opinion) is the BEST mag reloader on the market today....This is a MUST HAVE accessory!!!!

How interesting, I saw the UpLULA loader in person at a store today and came this close --> <-- to buying one to test it out. Maybe I'll go back later and get it. Sure doesn't compare to the price of the Magloaders but seems like it'd be easier on the thumbs.
