We've all been there, some particular type of magazine or perhaps even one specific magazine that is just a real thumb-buster to load. Well I have two of them. The first is a Savage model 64 rifle (.22LR) with one easy and two difficult to load magazines and the second is my Taurus Millennium Pro PT-140 which just seems to have a difficult to load magazine design overall.
Extensive searching failed to locate any specific "magazine loaders" for either of these guns and I was about to give up when I stumbled upon this article in About.com and suddenly there was my answer.
Sometimes I am stunned by how simple the solution to a problem can be. The "MagLoader" is essentially a one piece oval plastic ring with a stud projecting out of one side. The stud itself has a concave end which helps it to center on the round you are trying to push down into a magazine. (see either the review above or the Magloader site for pictures). There are two types, one for smaller guns (.22-.32)and one for larger calibers (.380-.45). Ordering one actually gets you a set of 3 "rings" in small, medium, and large size. Small fits my wife, medium fits me, and I may "gift" the large ones to a friend of mine.
I bought one "set" of each type and am pleased to report that I can now load my Savage and my Taurus quickly and easily. Best of all the Magloader rings are tiny and light so it's no issue at all to throw them all in my range bag so I have them with me all the time. They really make short work of reloading every magazine type I have and my various (multiple) HKS magazine loaders have been gathering dust since I got the Magloaders because of the "one size fits all" nature of the Magloaders.
In short, the Magloader is cheap, simple, and it works! A little late for a stocking stuffer, but maybe a great Valentines day "ring" for that special someone?
