Basic pistol safety course (beginner or refresher)= $100?
Gunshot in the hand hospital bill = $4,000+?

Based on my experience with a remarkably similar wound. and assuming he didn't break any small bones in his palm (they will X-Ray at the emergency room), the emergency room bill should be under $500.

The emergency room personnel will flush through the wound with salt water, pour on the antiseptic and tell the victim to make an appointment with a hand surgeon in the next couple of days. They will not take any stitches and will not dress the wound (they want the wound to heal from the inside out).

He will likely be advised to soak the hand in a bath of fresh Hydrogen Peroxide twice a day for 20-30 minutes each but to keep the hand dry and clean otherwise.

I really hope the OP comes back with a follow up post that provides information about the follow up for this poor guy. One thing for sure, this fellow sure got a wake up call. He is going to remember this for a very long time. I hope he doesn't lose too much use or suffer any major long term nerve damage to his little finger.

I don't understand the aversion to Glocks that people have. It's just a tool. Geez. And I've never had an issue with any gun in my hands because I always know the status. If I don't, I learn it, and there ya go.

Remove magazine/open cylinder --> rack slide/work bolt/spin cylinder -->verify chamber clear. Status verified. Bullets don't magically jump into the chamber. I dry fire all the time, and I have to pull the trigger on my Glock and my wife's XD to strip. Follow the rules, just to be safe, and you are fine.

I see it as no different than unplugging my table saw when I change the blade, or pulling the switch out a bit in my drill press. Lol, firearms are deadly, but so is electricity. Hell, at least you can see bullets. I won't say that I've never hurt myself doing something silly, but I think that as even a semi-intelligent upright being with opposable thumbs, it shouldn't be that bad.

Yup, ND/AD discharges happen all the time. So do electrocutions and mishaps with power tools. Proper training and paying ATTENTION to things that can KILL YOU should just go without saying.

There was no police investigation, only a report. And i live outside of the city limits. we found the slug and he kept it. i told him we would drill it and make a necklace as a reminder. i still really cant believe it happened but the pics are a instant reminder.
