I have recently taken up reloading .308 Win for my AR-10. I was a bit surprised to find the cartridge sharing the same type of powder as my 5.56. I was sort of expecting to be using H4350 or similar. Anyhow I have a load built up with H335 and 147gr Winchester fmjbt that is working out well. So I've had a pound of Accurate 1680 that has been floating around my reloading cabinet for a few years and I'm wondering if anyone has any load information they may want to share. Like is that too fast of a powder or not and maybe a ball park on where to start working up a load. FYI I do not have a chrono. I stay within recommended load ranges starting at the lower end and working up while monitoring my brass. Any advise is appreciated, I've googled all over trying to find a yay or nay before starting a thread.

1680 is too fast for the 308 and it is too fast for 223 Rem.

Accurate does NOT list 1680 for use in the 223 Rem. in their reloading manual. It is too fast.

1680 was made to load in the 7.62X39MM. 1680 is in short supply and is coveted by 7.62X39 MM reloaders. You may be able to find someone in your area to trade your 1680 for something more suitable for your 223.

10-4 Thank You! I'll see who wants to trade. If anyone on the Western Slope of Colorado has some H4350 or similar powders. I'd be interested in trading out a pound of AA1680.

Best powders for me for Ar10 and Ar15

Varget for 308 and H335 for 223.

Please get you a couple of reloading manuals and be safe.

Thanks Mr.Revolverguy. I have the western powders edition 5.0 and some other books and such. I've found that some folks on here have some interesting loads. One was a .22 shell of reloader #9 dumped into a 30-06 case and a single double ought buck shot pressed into the case for rabbit ammo.

ive had good luck with powders as fast as 2230 with 150 grain 308s but 1680 is a bit to fast. Great for 762x39 and the hornet though. Im sure if it was all I had id make my ar15s run on it but I have better powders.
