I've got a crkt kommer free range with gut hook 2042,and it's a bit of a pain to sharpen the first 1/4" or so. I want to ask what you think about me adding a choil to help out, I've used this knife pretty heavily and sharpened it a bunch. To the point where the edge is getting uneven the first 1/4".
I'll be doing some other work one day on the knife since the tip of the gut hook has broken off, so I'll probably make like a drop point of something like that. I've already modified the knife some, it has a hollow grind but it stopped way before the edge and it didn't seem to cut and was hard to slice. So I worked both sides on a stone to thin it down and it more like a straight grind now. Seems to worked well.
