Applied for a VAF for a upin cause I was tired of getting delayed everytime of purchase...I know quite a few here have applied for and gotten their upin number...I got my first letter back after 2 weeks saying my app. was accepted and passed thru to the final phase,and I would be receiving a letter back shortly ...That was like a month ago...Any info on about how long these things take to get processed ?

Problem with the UPIN is the feds will now have a database of the firearms you purchased.
I would rather wait the 3 days. I don't buy that many guns.

Federal law states that the NICS database is to be expunged every 24 hours. I can believe that because people that get a delay, get delays again. If the database was kept intact then the people that get delays would get proceeds.
At least I hope it is this way.

Indeed, federal law mandates that NICS data be wiped every 24 hours...... Unfortunately, the government doesn't always heed it's own laws. I strongly suspect that someone somewhere is keeping that data for future reference, whether they admit it or not. I don't mean to get all tinfoil-hat on anyone here, it's just that the government tends to do illegal things, because they are "good for you".

If it's is expunged every 24 hours then good, but does it say that the data isn't/can't be sent to another database for recording or my fav reason...*cough, cough* research.
You know when we run a NICS check we check one of three boxes denoting Handgun/Longgun/Other and thats all... no serial numbers or any info like that.
Sure the 4473 has all that but unless they need it for a criminal investigation or we shut down, that stays in my fireproof cabinet.
