After 69 years, it is real

You have no idea how it heartens me to see one of our members now able to exercise his 2nd Amendment civil right in a state as anti-gun as Illinois.

Congratulations!

Congrats PaPaG!!
I just finished hosting a ccp class in my farm shop for for friends and family. My application is sent off and I am waiting to get my permit too.

Congrats again. I didn't think it would ever happen either.

How long has Illinois been violating the Second Amendment rights of its citizens? Mark the Sign Guy told me last year that it had been 52 years.

But what are we counting from?

The FOID act was Aug 3, 1967 so that is 46 years, 7 months.

Does anyone know what statute began the Illinois violation of our Second Amendment Right?

Congrats!

As a CA resident with a hard-won CCW permit I know how you feel.....except I am only half your age.
I haven't been carrying too long but I will say....once you get used to it, you will feel naked without it.
Enjoy!

I am happy for you guys.
I am sure the Illinois Nazi's are absolutely seething about this change of law.
As many things ccw it's now time to start trying to get some of the needless laws changed on where you can't carry because from what my understanding is it's pretty limited.

As a former N.J. resident, I congratulate you and wait for the day, if it ever comes, that my N.J. friends can feel the same as you do now.

That will be one hard nut to crack though and if you followed recent N.J. legislation and proposed legislation, it is clear to see they have a tough road ahead.

I've been carrying everywhere for 8 days now (instructor). Haven't done walmart but I've done Menards.. Tractor supply.. Big R... went out for dinner .. couple gas station trips..

So far the only negative thing I've had happen is a bit of butt-chafing. Seems that the IWB rig pushes my cheeks together more than normal.

Next time you are in Tractor Supply they have something for that condition-----

Congrats PapaG

My heartfelt congratulations to you from the Commonwealth of Kentucky. I've been a licensed carrier since the first year our CCW law took effect. If you are like me, you will henceforth look at new handgun purchases with an eye toward it's ease of carry, reliability and available holster options more so than any other appeal it may offer. My CCW guns are of course the most used items in my very modest collection of firearms. I find that I reach for my pocket holstered 3 inch SP101 as routinely as I reach for keys, billfold and glasses. "The Walk" becomes a non-issue after a time, but for the moment, relish your new-found legislated freedom and again, welcome to the club. Don

You might want to re-read the holster carrying instructions guide. It says concealed...not inserted.

Re: "The Walk"..... I think that's a referral to the unofficial tradition of taking your new permit, strapping on your pistol, and going to WalMart and walking around while armed! I think everyone does that, some munch on popcorn too.

And congrats! Welcome to the club! May it never stop growing.
The Walmart walk, while admittedly stupid, is something I did 4 years ago when I got my CCW at the suggestions of others, and something that was fun and I chuckle at looking back.
I learned a lot on that walk, like maybe a full size 1911 wasn't going to be the best concealed carry piece. :)

My friend lives in southern IL and says that they want you to list your firearms on the application. That sounds a little odd to me, but then it is IL. Anyone verify that for me? He's resisting getting a card for that reason.

Congratulations to PaPaG, and everybody else now able to carry concealed in Illinois. Maybe, just maybe, one day you guys and gals will be free to exercise your civil rights without the need to pay a tax and get permission from your government to do so. Here's to hoping. In the mean time... carry on!

*This message sent from Free America (AKA: Alaska), where people regularly carry - concealed or open - without any kind of tax or government permit.

Completely false.

Application requires:
DL or state ID information
FOID information
List of residences over past 10 years
List of yes/no questions that cover potential disqualifiers
Payment information

Uploaded photo and training certificate
Digital fingerprints optional

That's all.

Excellent. You're getting up to speed with the rest of the country, in spite of being saddled with "Chicagoland"! :D

What the heck were you carrying? Might want to pick up some of that monkey butt powder from tractor supply next trip. :neener:

Congrats everyone...

Congrats to all in IL who can exercise another bit of their Constitutional rights. As a 38 year resident who moved from IL to WI 20 years ago, I can't say I thought it would ever happen. Going on 3 years with CCW here in WI now, so I do remember the feeling of Liberty and responsibility when I first started CCW here. (Yes, I did the "walk":) }

Now, If IL would only allow reciprocity for their neighbors to the North, it would make my travels a little less complicated!

Oh, and if they would also allow automatic weapons and suppressors.............wait, that would be asking too much, wouldn't it, since "they" didn't allow anything; they were forced into it.
Why won't IL allow reciprocity? I live in Alabama and there are several states that don't have a reciprocal agreement with Alabama. We just made some changes to the concealed carry law that I thought would change that. Some of the states don't recognize Alabama's concealed carry permits because the state doesn't do background checks for the permits. I thought the new law would change that but it didn't. But permits can be renewed now anywhere from 1 to 5 years.
By the way, I usually carry a Taurus PT 140, .40 cal. I've got a glock but I don't feel comfortable carrying a gun with no safety, other than on the trigger, stuck down in my britches.

Why won't IL allow reciprocity?

It isn't because other states have less training or less stringent background checks or any of that.

Illinois is still controlled by anti-Second Amendment politicians and they aren't going to do anything to increase the number of people carrying.

It is kind of a stand-off. There are enough pro-2A votes to keep the antis from passing stuff like mag bans and AWB. But there aren't enough votes to over-ride the Speaker of the House, and the Speaker of the House has the power to table any proposed legislation.

The current carry bill only came about because CA7 forced the issue. The anti-gun politicians had a choice , create a bill that complied with the court ruling or have what would have been some sort of "court carry" which probably would have meant FOID holders could carry almost anything they wanted in any manner.

Even with that possibility hanging over their heads they still managed to compile a huge list of restricted locations and get it put into the bill.

They are never going to let out-of-state people carry unless a judge orders them to.
