Just turned 24 this month. Had BB guns as a kid and shot a 22 rifle when i was probably 8-9 the first time, didn't like the ultra loudness of guns for a long time (didn't use any hearing protection) and generally stayed with my air rifles of various kinds.
Inherited my fathers guns at his passing when I was 20. 4 shotguns (870 pump, win 101 O/U, Rem 1100 16gauge, single shot 16gauge that was my grandfathers), and 2 hunting rifles .30-30 bolt action, .308 lever action (still scratch my head about this today). I kinda took to shooting birdshot at various nuisance critters around the yard but decided I didn't wanna scratch up any of the nice wood or anything on the guns I had so I started asking for a shotgun that could be my own for my 21st birthday. I got a mossberg maverick 88 with a 28 inch barrel and screw in choke tubes. Not knowing any better I bought shells that were cheapest thing I could find and also happened to be heavy game loads and headed off to the nearest trap range to learn to shoot it. I didn't hit much and my shoulder was hurting and bruised up nicely afterwards but some of the old geezers helped me out and give me some tips about lighter loads and such. Ended up talking to the manager there and got a part time job working at the gun club, ended up staying 2.5 years. I guess thats what really got me into guns and liking to shoot. Never really got into clays shooting, just couldn't hit the dang little boogers much but I got interested in handguns and rifles a bit.
Now I have 2 AK's, compact polymer .45, 1911, .357 6in barrel, .357 snub nose, another shotgun with a shorter barrel, and a mosin nagant. Always looking for more. I like guns that are fun to shoot, even if there not that pretty to look at.
One day I hope to have some of the toys that are so fun they cost an extra $200. I got a late start compared to some of you guys, I gotta make it up somehow.
Edit: only 8 track I ever seen was in a really old car or at the flea market, I do remember cassettes, and I do have a LP player but digital stuff is still easier to fit in my pocket. You can even get high bit-rate digital versions of LP's that haven't had the skips and pops and white noise edited out for all you oldies that insist that they are better that way.
