Sighted in the Kobra reflex on my Romanian AK today. Ammo was Wolf MC 124 gr JHP. Started out at 20 yards, then moved out to 100 yards.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with them, the Kobra is a Russian reflex sight, along the lines of the EOTech. It is sturdy and reliable, but I figured out rather quickly that I can't read Russian ;)

I wasted some ammo figuring out which knob did what in which direction by how much, but eventually, I got it on target. It has four reticles to choose from, of which I prefer the chevron. The last three rounds of the day went into a respectable group:

I then pastied the group and proceeded to dump the rest of the mag, about 20 rounds, as failure drills from about 30 yards:

I don't think I did too bad considering I haven't gotten any real trigger time in months. I then finished up with a few rounds of 168 Hornady Match through the M1A. I could only afford a couple boxes of rounds so it was only a few, but it was better than nothing. I love every second I spend behind this rifle:

All things consider, it never ceases to amaze me how the AK does manage to do its job when the rifleman does his. It will never be a varmint or a target rifle, but it does what it was designed to do.

Not at all a bad day!

I've been dancing around the idea of getting a Kobra for my Saiga AK.

Who did you get yours from? How much did it run you?

Btw, nice string shooting with the M1a

Tantal sells them. i paid 180 iirc for mine, have not gotten a chance to use it yet since i have 5 AK's and none with side rails lol!

The Kobra sights are very good and very robust. I would recommend them if you have the side rail. If you don't, see the other thread about the LaRue AK red dot mount.

I love the Kobra. Just be advised that they do not work so well in inclement weather, especially if it is snowing outside.

HTH.

Why would the Russians make something that doesn't work in the snow? Or are they only selling them to their enemies? :)

Where did you get the M4-style side folding stock? How solid is it? The Tapco skeltonized side folder is flimsy crap.

I've had a Kobra on my SAR-1 for a few years, and have really enjoyed having the scope.

In the first pic below you can see some of the controls and in the second pic, you can see the reticles from which to choose.

Thanks for posting the pics and info.

Since we are discussing the Red Dots. I had considered getting a Kobra for my new AK, but went with the Aimpoint CompML3 on a forward mounted Ultimak rail.

I love my set up and am glad I spent a little extra to get the Aimpoint with the scout scope set up.

I'm as accurate out to 100 yards as I can shoot, which is fairly accurate, and the red dot for picking up moving targets or for just plain quick target acquisition is absolutely amazing.

Iron sights are fine, but if you can afford it, get a red dot, it changes the whole shooting experience.

I use the Kobra on my Vepr. My tantal doesn't have a rail so I am trying to decide on the Ultimak rail or the LaRue rear sight replacement. We'll see. I have a CZ pistol in line ahead of that stuff. :)

The other thing I liked about a good red dot scope is that it gives you more capability in low light or night time conditions. I like the idea that I could use it for home defense or for varmints at night without losing use of the sights. A small thing perhaps, but I like having the capability.
