AK74 help

at my lgs there is a nice looking AK74 and since i live in a small town its for a nice pre ban scare price of $700 but im sure i could do some haggleing. I would apreciate a little info on it if anyone has any experience. Its tagged as a Nodac Spud LLC edina Minn mod nds-2 and its a Century import. Any info would be nice thanks

nodac is the maker of the reciever (one of the best) century proabably had one of thier subcontractors built it out of a parts kit. maybe bulgarian. its a ak platform if the front site and gas block is on straight, I would grab it. The ammo is still pretty cheap right now by the case.
You will hear alot of century (fill in the blank) is junk, never buy century this or that, aside from reading stuff on the net. every wasr10 AK owner Ive ever talked to tell me they pull the trigger on their gun and it always goes bang. Just look it over real well.
I have 3 wasr 10s and they all work great, I also have a century AR15, and a M1 garand (havent shot that yet) but the ar works great too. I did buy a IO PSL rifle, imported from romania, same as the century rifles. Its got a gas block on pretty crooked. but does function fine. jim

thanks jim. i also dont really have aproblem with centry i bought a siaga last year that i am pleased with. what i have usualy heard is that century imports are safe and the builds are a gamble

NoDak Spud receivers are very high quality American made AK receivers.

As far as the receiver goes...you can not go wrong with one of these!!

WASRs aren't built by century. They're imported and all century does is mill out the magwell and stamp their name on it.


If they sub'd the rifle out, it's probably fine. Even if they built it, it's probably fine, assuming it's a bulgarian AK. If it's a Polish Tantal, I'd be wary of it due to *some* of Century's builds getting 5.56 barrels instead of 5.45 barrels. Not all got them, and hopefully those problems have been fixed, but there still could be some out there.


For that price, if you can get it in the 600s, you're doing good. Even if you have to pay full price, given today's political climate, I'd still have a hard time not walking out with it.

that was a $500-550 gun all day,but I guess if you buy into the panic scare 700 is OK givin everything checks out on it and it shoots good.

The parts kit, receiver, and misc items to build that will cost you around $400 right now. That doesn't include the tools or paint to finish. I think $700 is probably a little high but the market is what it is. I would shoot for $600 and be happy. Bulgarian parts kits are top notch assuming matching numbers. Some barrels are USA and not chrome lined. You should examine the barrel. I have 2 parts kits with Chrome lined USA barrels.

I have one of those that meets your description. Works fine. No front sight alignment issues with mine. Military and Tapco mags fit fine but "other" polymer mags require some file work on the latch lug. Accurate enough for gov't work but doesn't like Wolf 70 grain FMJ-some keyholes @ 25 yards. Likes Golden Tiger FMJ. Trigger is very good-much better than any previous AK trigger I've pulled.
