How about:
Vz 58
Cz858
Egyptian Rasheed
AIM-Aussie Lee Enfield (this is a new one)
Valmet M78 (some are 7.62x39)

JA, Last year I found a post of yours that was at least a couple years old which led me to a process that is very similar. I do not recall where I found that post, but I always wanted to say thanks for it.

I wanted to develop two loads. One for accuracy and one for tactical rifle competition. I did not want to use fully handloaded ammo because I'd end up losing pretty close to 100% of my brass, and Russian ammo is lousy stuff.

So the in between solution was to modify the Russian stuff and make it better.

My accuracy round is still in the works, but my basis is the Silver Bear round with the factory powder measured closely, case trimmed and topped with the same Sierra Pro Hunter .311 at 2.20". I've gotten groups from 5/8 to 3/4" at 50 yards with it in one SKS. I've had that rifle modified since and it no longer shoots that well. Not sure why yet. Going to work on the round itself again during the winter to see if I can bring it back.

The tactical round is a reduced load. I use Golden Tiger as the basis. I replace the powder with IMR 4895, weigh and sort the factory bullets and use only the 123.5 grainers, trim the cases if I feel especially nerdy and seat at 2.197". This round is not as accurate as the Silver Bear but a lot better than factory and with much reduced recoil. It only needs performance out to 100 yards.

Anyway, this is all due to your previous experiments and guidance!

Glad that one of my posts helped you out. Sounds like some pretty tight groups as I just can't seem to get much better than 2"@100yds with my SKS or AK rifles.

That was at 50 yards.

Thanks again JA, I'll stop hijacking this thread now!

I have been looking into the CZ 527 Carbines. People seem to really like them and they are not that expensive. I like the fact that they have sights and a detachable mag.

The Remington 799 (Zastava) also looks pretty nice - hinged floorplate and no sights. The price is about the same as the CZ.

There is a Ruger MKII on Gunbroker in 7.62x39.

The conversions seem a bit pricy to me, since I don't have a base gun to work with.

The idea of an accurate gun in this caliber is tempting due to the cheap ammo that can be found (or cheap cases with decent bullets as in posts above) but if anyone is thinking it would be great to have an accurate rifle that can share ammo with their AK/SKS its a moot point IMHO. You (well I know I) can't afford to stock 1000s of rounds of high quality ammo for my AKs/SKSs, they can't make use of it anyway so I buy the cheap Russian stuff which therefore is not too useful in an accurate rifle. You might as well have two different calibers! Just get a bolt rifle in .308 or 30-06 and be done with it. :D

Another vote for cz carbine. I haven't had a rifle since I was 7 years old that I wanted to hug this much! Love it.

There is Baikal and Rossi single shots.
Century and several other companies did Mauser conversions as well.
Ruger has done various limited runs of M-77's in 7.62x39 as well.

Roll your own, and you can get the 7.62x39mm to really perform in the CZ-527. Recall that the 7.62x39 is the base case for the 6mmPPC and several other match/benchrest rounds. MilSurp tends to be pretty irregular.

Yet another vote for the CZ-527.

Wait, I thought the x39 was the base for the Grendel, but an old .30 case like the .30 Remington was the base for the 6.8? Isn't that why the Grendel works well in the 527 but the 6.8 creates problems? Or did I just dream that?

Well, well, this bubbled to the top again. It looks like the gun money for the year sang its swan song on a 7.62x39mm AR (Model 1 upper, Noveske lower, JARD 3# single stage trigger and a Bushnell MP red dot). Magazines are still a hangup, but I found some old USA 10 rounders at a gun show that pretty much work (not quite well enough for HD).

Man, I love this gun! It's crowding the Colts for preferred trigger time.
