Damnit, now you guys have me looking at ARs in .300 BLK. The kicker was seeing a pic of an HK53 (I think) next to an AR. Whatever it was, it looked an awful lot like a PTR-32 PDW. The HK was huge! The OAL on a PTR-32 PDW is supposed to be around 24" (correct me if I'm wrong here) before adding a retractable stock, which to my eyeball looks to add something in the neighborhood of 2" to OAL when fully retracted. I'm hearing about lower OALs than that for SBR ARs with similar barrel lengths. The $1300 I'm looking at spending on a PTR will buy a lot of AR. Sure .300 ammo is a lot more expensive, but on the other hand, you can go subsonic, which is starting to sound better and better to me the more I think about it. Another bonus is I'm already familiar with the platform, and I know for sure I can get my sights and optic to co-witness, which helps a lot with RDS and my old astigmatism-having eyes.

Aarg. "This happens every &#$@ing time when I go shopping!" I was jazzed about the good looks of the PTR, but it's starting to look way too big and heavy for this role.

Haha, I actually stumbled on the BARFCOM thread where that PDW/LAW pic was originally posted. And to be honest, while they're not HK-pretty, they're not bad looking, either.

P.S., Ifit: that thing is pretty sexy for an "AK."

Just buy some reloading gear with the rest of that $1300 and the 300 BLK becomes your best friend. Use .223 brass and .308 bullets and learn a new skill
