I don't even know anymore
I'm looking for an alternative to a heavy gun safe. I'm in the military, and thus I will be moving every few years for the foreseeable future. The military will only pay to move 10,000lbs of stuff, and I don't believe they'll transport firearms, so blowing a few hundred/thousand pounds of my allowance and STILL having to haul my own arsenal seems like a PITA.
Is there any alternative storage method that could keep my guns secure while I'm out of town, but not be a huge heavy steel box?

How about buying a used armored car. Solves two problems at once, where to store the guns and what vehicle to take to the range.:what:

You could look into a Knack box also. There a heavy duty steel box for storing tools in on a construction site. Not to heavy but definably stronger than the stackon type gun cabinets.

They might transport firearms. I transferred many times when I was in the Navy and PCS'd firearms just fine. What do you fly? Are you at Randolph or Lackland? I remember doing cross countries in the old T-34C to Randolph up from Corpus Christi while training in VT-27. Thought it was funny that Air Force pilots couldn't even sign their own flight plans back then.

That's what DITY moves are for - get the U-Haul to shag all of your guns, ammo, and reloading supplies (boxed as "auto parts":)) for that the moving company won't move - and taht you'd never let them touch anyway.

When I was active, I used a Treadlock and lag-bolted it to the studs wherever I lived. After I retired and bought a real safe, it stores my ammo.
