Or is it normal to go and buy a box of Speer Gold Dot 9mm's on your 21'st birthday? The alcohol thing, yeah, that's all well and good, but I'm more excited about being able to give my Jericho a proper meal.

Is this normal?

Also, what did you fellas get on your 21'st, ammo and/or handgun wise?

I didn't do anything like that for my birthday. I was low on cash at the time. I bought some cheap beer a few weeks later. Nothing special.

Thankfully, nothing. All my friends came over when I got off work (as a bartender, no less.) I got home to find them all there and several bottles of Tequilla.

I woke up face-down on the front lawn (and haven't had a sip of tequilla since.)

Firearms in that mix would have been a really, really, bad, bad thing.

(Now I don't drink)

I went to a gunshow over an hour away from my home, bought a keltec, came back home, went to the range, bought some .380 hydrashock ammo, shot it and some other guns, and then went back home, packed those up and my folks took me to a steak dinner.

I did NOT wake up with a hangover.

All I got on my 21st was a sore back from driving a Military 5-ton Dumptruck all day long. From about 3 am untill 6 pm non stop 2 mile round trip I drove and drove and drove. I had some bloody knuckles that day from learning to shift the truck. Other than that and getting a big meal not a darn thing. We had a levey break and they called my guard unit to fix it and quick before it washed a guys dairy cows down the river.

didn't get a handgun on my 21st (because I couldn't do it legally), but I signed up for my pistol permit class.

Nope not nuts, when I turned 18 first thing I bought was a Henry .22

When I turned 22 I hit a local tobaccanist for a box of CAO Black, my favorite cigars, bought a bottle of Remy Martin XO (I'd been saving up for this awhile lol) and went in and picked up my Mosin Nagant 91/30 Sniper repro. Went out to the range, came home for dinner, sat after dinner had a cigar and some of the Cognac, woke up for work the next morning, still have about half the bottle sitting on a shelf, special toasting drink really.

The pistol bug hasn't bitten me just yet although I find myself looking at the Mauser Broomhandle pistols more and more lately

Bought a Firestrorm 1911 (long story) and went home and put it tin my gun safe.

Went to every bar that I could ever drink at before (pretty much only at restaurants I had worked at that knew I wasn't 21 yet) and got mah drank on.

Bless the wife for being the DD for me and some drunken buddies.

Bless Grand Mariner for never, ever giving me a hangover.

But you're right.... I cared more about being able to buy a handgun rather than being able to buy alcohol.

:uhoh: EEEHhhh I don't remember....:D I was probably drunk.. But I know for sure I didn't do the gun thing.

It may sound funny, but I don't remember a thing about my 21st birthday, so couldn't tell you what I did, if anything.

I'd already been out on my own since I was 17, and had several rifles, shotguns, and handguns... and alcohol was never difficult to get no matter what age I was.

So all in all, I suppose turning 21 was a non-event. *shrug*

Neh, guns we have :D

Went to the Iron Hill (gourmet-ish fare and microbrew beer), got served at 11:30 the night before. Very disappointing. A good lesson on situational awareness, though: Every time I turned around, my beer glass was full again. And shots showed up, from nowhere.

Now, I turned 21 on a sunday - by monday I'd slept it off and was there at the courthouse in time to get my permit application when it opened..

I now know that one can get some temporary amusement from alcohol, but a gun is a much better investment in terms of pleasure per dollar!

I was much more excited about being able to buy guns and ammo than I was about getting a drink. Much more. I had the pistol picked out. I do not drink at all anymore,(24 yrs) but I shoot as much as ever, if not more. I am a gun junkie I guess. :D

By the way. I already had a 1911 and a drink (not together) by the time I was 17. ;)

Time to resurrect the ATF photos :)

The perfect 21st birthday.......

Picked up my SA 1911a1 in Glenwood, IL--waited out the three days prior to my B-day (maybe IL can close that loophole now, just in case another young gun nut might use it).

Makes much more sense than cellebrating one's majority by getting falling down sick and drunk (yes, I did that too, and had dinner with friends at The Berghoff--a good birthday all around).

Happy Birthday and be careful!

Are you insane for buying a box of pistol ammo on your 21st birthday? Absolutely! As another poster pointed out, for buying just ONE box!

When I hit the big 2-1, I'm not sure I'll even be able to afford a pistol or anything.

No, you're not insane. When I was 19, the drinking age dropped to 18 or 19. So, I was able to have a drink say with my pizza if I wanted. Then, after a few months, the principals' association in Michigan raised Hades because students were coming to school after legally drinking. :neener: Age went back up to 21, and for a year and a half I couldn't buy a drink...again. That is insane. It's fun not being told by big brother what to do, isn't it? :D

Hey TR:

That's a cool pic...pass me a cigar....pllleeeeeeease. :(

Happy Birthday!

On my 21st birthday, I was standing Guard Duty on Okinawa eight days after 9/11. I was restricted from purchasing or imbibing in alcohol until after the New Year.
