Amazed...No Escort w/Ammo Purchase

So I was out buying ammo today, and was plesently surprised when I was actually allowed to walk through Academy Sports while holding a couple of boxes of handgun ammo. I just moved to Lafayette, LA from New Orleans, LA. Back in N.O. every store that wasn't a dedicated gun shop had you escorted to the cash registers, or out of the store once you made your purchase of handgun ammo. It was a good feeling knowing that I was trusted with my evil 40 s&w ammo while shopping around.

Just thought I'd share my joy with the rest of you. I also found a couple of decent looking Fal's in my shopping around today. I didn't see too much in the way of good looking, and fairly priced handguns, but I also didn't have time to shoot the bull and haggle either. That'll have to wait for tomorrow. I'm really liking my new home more and more every day.

And to all those living in the gun grabbing cities, I hope that you can get out soon.

I was shopping at walmart the other night around midnight and I waved
over some kid to help me in the sporting goods area.

After getting him to recognize a box of 550 .22LR he had in the cabinet
he started to ring it up.

I told him I had more shopping to do could I just take it up to the front
with my other purchases like I always do.

He said no "they can't do that anymore" then he asked if it was for a pistol or rifle.

I told him it was for my machine gun and the kid replies "I think those are illegal sir" I told him I had paid my $200 tax stamp and I'm going to use the ammo in my machine gun.


The guy didn't say anything else, rung it up, gave me my receipt and went back to talking to his buddy.

Went to Walmart last week to stock up on 9mm. While there, I saw the 100 count boxes of 45 acp's. So, I ended up w/ 1000 9mm & 1000 45 acps
They must know me there now because I didn't get a rise out of anyone

I have never had any trouble at either Wal-Mart or Academy when purchasing ammunition. I am always allowed to carry the ammo myself and exit without any hassles. Of course I don't wear baggy pants with my skivies showin', sportin' a FUBU jacket, with my MOLON LABE ball cap on backwards either.........................

My answer to the standard Wal-Mart question is MYOFB ! punk!

I've never been escorted to the front for buying ammo at either Academy or Walmart, regardless of what type of ammo.

Logistar, it's all about the insurance. Some ins. Companies require it, some don't. Doesn't matter if it makes no sense.

I walked around Academy here in "liberal" Austin for half an hour with 200 rounds of .45ACP and no one cared.

Two weeks ago I went to Wal-Mart and bought ammo. Told them I had to buy some other things and the said that they would leave it up front at a register.
This week I went to buy ammo. Paid for it in the Sporting Goods Dept. and then walked around the store for another hour waiting on the wife to finish her shopping.

BROWNWOOD, Texas -- Police say a man was bitten by a rattlesnake while shopping for shoes in a Wal-Mart store in Texas.
Douglas Hatchett of Brownwood was examining shoes on a rack when a rattlesnake concealed behind a shoebox bit him yesterday. The snake fell to the floor, where Hatchett stomped it to death.

Police, fire and emergency medical crews were called to the scene.

The 31-year-old shopper and the dead snake were hustled to Brownwood Regional Medical Center. There, the snake was confirmed as a rattler, and Hatchett was treated and released.

Wal-Mart officials say the matter's being investigated and they have no comment.

Brownwood is about 120 miles southwest of Fort Worth.

I've bought in Wally Mart and not been escorted. Haven't bought anything from them in a couple of years, though. My guess is that it's the local idiot (or not) store manager. I'd buy the insurance angle if it were the same at all Wally's.

For the heck of it, I asked an ancient two-toother behind the gun counter at Lebanon, Ohio's Wal-Mart if he had any 10mm ammo.


He said "No ... got 7mm ... 7mm is all we got."

No but they make paint filled air-soft 6mm balls, you may be able to use those with a wad, but it would be single shot muzzle loading.

I went to Wal Mart to buy a Remington 870, filled out the paperwork, showed my CHL and had to be escorted to the door. What was funny is my wife was with me, she also has her CHL, and we were both packing while walking on each side of the store manager who was carrying the 870, which was in the box. She (the store manager) didn't have a clue. Go figure.

One of my juvenile fantasies is to go to Wal-Mart's clothing department and get a ski mask or pantyhose, go to hardware and get a hacksaw, and then go to the gun counter and lay the stuff down and ask the guy there if I can look at the shotguns and shotgun ammo...

I was in Wal-Mart recently with my coworker and as I waited for her to finish a conversation at the the customer service counter I started looking at this book of emergency procedures that was attached to the wall. It had a tab on each page that listed the emergency (such as fire, tornado, etc...) and then the page would have the contingency plan.

I naturally turned to the page marked "Shooting." It gave some advice to help prevent shootings in the store. One piece of advice was to always escort a gun purchaser to the door. So there's your reason. If they didn't escort you then there would definitely be a shooting.

Friday was good and well trained but not all workers are trained to the high level as Friday was. Poor workers should be fired!

WalMart here makes you pay for ammo at the sporting goods counter. They told me its because too many people where stealing the stuff and that the cashiers at the front of the store kept forgetting to ask people who are obviously over 21 if its for a handgun or not

Anyway, one time I bought ammo, I just filled my shopping cart up with the other stuff I was there to get and got the ammo last ... the sporting goods clerk just rang up my entire cartload of junk so I didn't have to wait in line up front

I bought some .40 a couple weeks ago and when asked if its for a handgun I told the guy it was for my machine gun. He thought I was serious and got all excited and said he wished he had the cash for some class III toys ... I told him I was just kidding and I wished I could afford some class III toys myself.


The other day I had a lot of fun. There was some kid covering the sporting goods counter and I went and asked for some .223 Remmingon ... Winchester white box. He asked "you want Remmington or Winchester" I said "I want some Winchester .223 Remmington" ... he looked confused, so I said just give me a box of Winchester in 5.56mm. Thankfuly the regular sporting goods guy showed up and gave me a hard time for confusing the poor kid.
