Howdy folks. I'm just curious as to who owns ammunition for guns they don't own and why do you have it on hand? I own 20 rounds of .303 British, 20 rounds of 7.62x39 199 rounds of .38 Special and 12 rounds of .357 magnum. I have the 7.62x39, .38, and .357 because it was the best deal in the world: free! I have the .303 because I bought the ammo and then called to buy the rifle and it was sold a few hours before I called:cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

I've got some ammo left over (less than 2K rounds total of .40 S+W, 44 Mag, 20 GA, and 380) for guns I've sold and currently have nothing that'll shoot it. That said, I'll never buy ammo in a caliber I don't currently own.

I have a bunch of 40 S&W I plan to use when I get a Glock to shoot it, but I am thinking of ordering some 308 and 30carbine :) Just because I do not own the guns yet that does not mean my friends or family do not own a weapon chambered in it....:)

<<Free ammo can be awfully expensive. At least for me it would because I would probably buy a gun that can shoot it.>>

+1!

free ammo ain't nuthin but trouble! :D:D

haha

I have various boxes of ammo for guns I no longer own. Sometimes I'll give it away to a friend who has something to shoot it out of. Often I keep it, figuring I may end up with another gun in that caliber someday.

I have around 60 rounds of 6mm. I converted that gun to a .308 so I no longer need that ammo.

I tend to think of it more as an excuse to buy another gun. Wouldn't want it to go to waste now, would we?

Funny as that may sound I've actually done that before LOL.

As a reloader, I also run into the terribly expensive random brass pickup. a year or so ago I found about a dozen of my 44mag cases that were a little to big for the die, that turned into a new 45colt vaquero. Some funny looking shiny cases mixed in with my dull looking 5.56 lake city brass, new 204 ruger. I wouldn't buy a new rifle or pistol just to get rid of some cases that I could just give to someone, but finding an interesting one gets the wheels turning, which causes thread posts, research, checking on price, and once I hold one I like in my hands, a new disposer of lead. I presently have a few 7mm X 57 mauser, 460 S&W mag, 338 rem mag and a single, but fascinating 10mm on my shelf of poverty.

Alucard- There's also the "I'll give you 50 bucks for that trash can full of brass" at the range. I started reloading 9mm recently, even though I've never owned a 9mm.

My retardation has been known to be quite expensive at times.

I've got a few hundred rounds of handloaded 38 Special. I've got a box of 45 Colt, a few rounds of 30/30, and a couple boxes of 20 ga. Don't have a gun for any of them. Might have to change that one of these days.

I've got a half box of 44mag and 45 colt
sitting around,someday i'll own some
type of firearm in those calibers again.

A friend gave me several hundred rounds of .40. It sat in the closet for about a year, and I brought some to a local THR shoot and gave it away, but I still had more of it. I really had no use for a .40, but I recently (as in last week) broke down and bought a used Steyr just to shoot up the rounds with.

When the rounds are gone, I'll sell the Steyr and put the money towards a Marlin .45-70, or perhaps a 16 gauge. I've got about 400 rounds of .45-70 and probably 500 shells of 16 ga. that I don't have a guns for as well.

I've decided that it is more economical to buy guns to shoot the ammo I have sitting around and than to buy new ammo for guns I already own.

If anyone has a Marlin they are looking to trade for a Steyr .40, look me up in about a month. :D

I've got a couple of boxes of .30-06 for a rifle I sold some 30 years ago, and probably 200+ rounds of 9mm, which I have no current weapon for after I got rid of my old Kel-Tec.

I have a bunch of Blazer 10mm I'll never use. I've shot 10mm before and, well, I'm confident in my masculinity to not have to do that too often :) But when a shop blowing it out of inventory, who am I to leave something that has barder value! :)

 Oh, I get it. That's why some of my friends call me a gun ho. (To paraphrase a currently unemployed radio host.) :D

I have guns that I don't have ammo for....
The local cabela's has 7.92x33 kurtz for sale. I'm very tempted to buy a box since I've never seen the stuff anywhere before and with the hopes that Karma will find me a very inexpensive MP-44 in the future.:p

I bought 2 boxes of 16 ga. steel before I found out I shouldn't shoot it in my 1938 Model 12. If anyone has any .300 Weatherby Magnum that needs a good home, give me a PM :)

I have about 100 rounds of .308 and another 200 rounds of .40 and I no longer own any guns in these calibers. I guess I should fix that...:scrutiny:

I got 40 rounds of .308 laying around. At the time I was planning on getting an M1A, but that got put off. I still havent gotten it yet.....:(. Eh, one of these days

i have ammo for guns i dont own
magazines for guns i dont own
stripper clips for guns i dont own
bayonets for guns i dont own
STOCKS! for guns i dont own.

just more excuse to go out and buy more guns ;)

I've got a Lee Loader in .30-06. I guess I need to get a Garand.

I've also got a couple rounds of various calibers (9mm, .308, .30-06, 16 ga, etc.) that I've found at my club lying loose on the ground here and there.
