I don't hoard ammo. I buy what I reasonably plan to shoot in the near future, keeping in mind that buying in bulk often results in huge savings.
I usually buy 22LR by the case because the stuff I shoot the most is for a bullseye gun and it likes ammo I cannot easily acquire locally. By the time I pay all the shipping fees, I might as well get a whole case. I might not shoot it all up this year, but it stores well.
Same thing applies to other calibers, especially stuff that is not easy to come by at local stores.
I agree with the reloading suggestion too, at least in part. The reality is that for some stuff it is cheaper to buy wolf than try to reload, so if you only interest in reloading is saving money, you may not see much savings in some calibers.
