Looking online and locally for a few pieces of brass for 6.8spc left me wondering why it's cheaper to buy loaded ammo than it is to just buy brass, then why it's the same price whether I want the tiny 6.8 or the comparatively large .270 win or .308. In frustration I bought 2 boxes of ammo just to run the rifle and to collect the brass.

I understand supply and demand but I also understand the cost of materials. Half the weight in brass should be worth a little savings.

Geez. I guess I just got a reminder of why I reload. This is ridiculous.

Lol, yeah its frustrating.
My AR eats the most expensive ammo of any of my rifles, besides my STW. I wouldnt call the 6.5 Gendel, or the .458 Socom obscure, yet cases cost the same or more than my larger magnums.

I would stick with: .556, 7,62x39, .30-30, .270, .308, .30-06, 7mmRemMag. The prices are far more reasonable than more "exotic stuff". The fact that I chose .300H&H instead of .30-06 or .300WinMag is my fault alone.

Yeah...pretty much the same issue I have with 10mm, 7-30 waters, .256 win mag, and 44 mag. At least I can form the 7-30 and .256 from common, plentiful cases after I unload them.

I suspect it is a matter of the sales volume relative to the pricing on more obscure ammo or brass.

It comes down to sales volume and competition. That is why 32 H&R Mag costs me almost twice as much as 357 Mag.

I always try to use the Cabela's sale that offer 20% off purchases over $100. That's the way I managed to buy some .204 brass, which can be hard to find. Still not cheap, but the best I have been able to find. The Wanenmacher Gun Shop in Tulsa sometimes has lots of brass, including obscure calibers.
