I just purchased a Taurus PT1911 a few days ago and went to Walmart to buy a few boxes of cheap 45 ACP ammo.....Brazer Brass for 11.97 a box of 50; I then headed to the range. Stopped by walmart today to stock up on target ammo and the price just went up to 14.88 a box !! Anybody else noticed the increases in ammo prices at WM ? I know ammo prices have been going on especially recently but for $15 a box I don't know how much I will be shooting the 45. Anybody have any other cheaper places they get ammo. I already checked all the normal online places. Thanks.

yeah i saw that they now have no .22lr for less than 12 bcuks a box of 550

Yea; I used to get the Federal .22 copper plated for 9.97 for 550. Now I think it is $12

I feel your pain. It's funny how the prices of everything keeps skyrocketing. The only thing that doesn't increase is my take-home pay.:banghead: That has been almost flat for four years. Increases in ammo prices two/three times a year and the prices of guns going up one/two times a year has me thinking seriously about making bicycling my main hobby once again and shooting just enough to stay proficient for a defensive situation while carrying. I don't have the desire to own one of every make of bicycle, so, it would be a safe move for me.

yes the 9mm Winchster went up around $4 a box of 100
the 45ACP only seemed to go up about a dollar...

I bought a bunch anyway. Gotta start getting brass to reload and I like to make my own spent cases. :)

Guess I'm glad I bought some ammo wednesday before the price increases. Now my only problem is storage of all of it.

I was in one two days ago (for any locals reading, Northern/55th Aves.). Blazer Brass .45 and WWB 9mm and .45 value packs were still the same, but the Remington/UMC 250-round bulk pack .45 had gone up $10. Perhaps when they sell the current stock off the prices of new stock will go up - waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak. I am watching and waiting as the price of .45 will affect my decision to buy more .45s - let alone keep the ones I have - in the future.

Ammunition will not be cheap, ever.

Remember, there are two price functions, Supply and Demand. On the Remington UMC and the CCI Blazer Brass prices, lately Walmart has been well below an equilibrium price. So, it's natural that the price at Walmart would increase. I am sure you have priced these ammunitions at other retailers.
Walmart enticed a lot of new ammo customers with these low prices.

Butdon't worry, Walmart's prices won't increase to the point where we can find the ammo cheaper at another retailer.

That's retail, ya'll. Walmart is just the best at it.

Even with the price increases, they're still lower than most other places.

I like the Remington 100 round packs of JHP. They've been scarcer than hen's teeth, even at $34 (about $10 more than it was a year ago). I looked at online prices, but there you're lucky to get 50 round boxes of any kind of JHP for less than $30 each, and usually even more than that.

Looks like 2008 is the year I begin to reload. From here on out, I keep all my centerfire brass.

Yay, another Wal-Mart thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Their Winchester .308 and WWB .45 prices are disgusting.

WWB 9mm and CCI Blazer Brass .45 are still pretty good in my area though.

The guy came out to raise the price while I was standing there. He told me to get what I wanted so I took every 550 bulk pack in the case. I now have 20,000 .22lr to see me through the year.

20,000? Do you seriously shoot that much in a year? That seems like a lot, but if more than one person is using that stockpile, maybe not.

I went to the wal mart closest to me yesterday, they had no blazer brass, but the price was 10 bucks. I figured that was alright, so I went to another wal mart about 5 miles from the first one, where I bought 5 boxes of .40 for 7.59/ea.

I wish I had to worry about ammo prices, being in turkey, I don't get to shoot at all. With the exception of qualifying and the 900 rounds I get for proficiency.

Now i know who is responsible for the ammo shortage.

What i don't get is why can i buy 1100 rounds of 22 LR for 25 bucks but a 1000 rounds of 22 mag cost at least $125.00 for Armscor. Thats 5 times as much. I know the prodution runs aren't as high. There ain't no way in hell that there is 5 times as much material so what gives?

Even percussion caps are $40.00 a thousand without a lead plug in it like a bulleted round.

Remember the primer scare a few years ago? Every one went crazy because they thought primers would not last but 6 months and the panic buying set in.

Sorry but i'm not gonna play this time. I have enough to last the rest of my life no more than i shoot now.

Assuming he takes two weekends off, that's 400 per week.

If he has a range in his backyard, that's 57 per day, or about 6 mags (assuming your average .22 holds 10) per day.

If he just goes shooting one day a week, that's 40 magazines of 10. I've gone through more than 400 rounds on range trips of centerfire ammo. Just recently got a .22 so the wallet won't hurt as much.

At least one local WalMart still has Blazer Brass 180gr FMJ 40S&W for $7.48/box. I don't expect that price to last much longer....

I happened by a walmart with Blazer Brass for $9.97/50, I bought up all of it, all 16 boxes. We'll see if they restock and keep the same price.

I usually clean out the Federal Bulk Pack at our Wal*Mart when my wife drags me there with her to carry home the 200lbs of cat litter she uses every month. Generally doing good to get six boxes.

If people are willing to pay the price, it will be charged.

Having said that, the dollar is in the toilet, Thanks George, and material costs are way up too. Did I overlook anything?

Prices today went up 20-30% overall, and the cashier claimed they are going up again.

Ouch, it makes me really glad I bought 2 of the 200 round .223 Federal Value Packs for $57 last week.

They've now gone up to $76.88

Looks like I'll be buying my ammo via the internet from now on.
