Ammo Supply Catching Up?

It could just be me, but I think ammo supply is slowly catching up with demand. It seems like 5.56 is sticking around for a while. Don't get me wrong, it still sells out. But, it is no longer selling out in minutes. One of the sites I visit takes a few hours now to sell out. XM855 has been available all day long.

Are others starting to notice this, too? I don't think it will take very much longer before prices start to fall.

Starting to see 223 here in southern Utah at Wally World and Sportsman's Warehouse. Still a 3 box limit but prices are 40 - 42 cents a round.

Yes, I think it is but the prices are a lot higher now. Once supply catches up more with demand, prices will come down.

I think it is slowly catching up. The other day Scheels had .223 in stock for a couple days around 50cts a round. Also had some at about 40cts.

Still bare shelves here in my part of Texas and what I'm finding online is at least 65 cents a round.

Walmart put some American Eagle out this morning for around $13 for a box of 20. A local gun shop had some Independace brand for $14.99 a box if I remember correctly. The Ft. Bliss Rod and Gun Club had 223/556 in the range of $20-$25 for a box of 20. Academy had it for $8.99 a box with a limit of one box per person per day. I've been stopping by Academy to purchase my daily allotment. Heck if they can maintain stock I can end up with 600 rounds in 30 days.

Is this apparent trend because more ammo production (versus demand) has been delivered to retail sellers, and many people won't pay the highest 'market prices'?

Or do many people now realize that certain US Senators see more political risks to their careers than was evident just after the mass tragedy, if they vote for more controls or taxes?

On Gunbroker there are bids of around $350 for 500 rounds.

That's about $0.70 a round.

About twice what it should be at full price.

Stopped at 3 wal marts here in mo and got 3 boxes of 223 American eagle at all three stores. Price was around .40 per rd.

still can't find any 500 blocks of .22 rimfire (that isn't 100$ a box eley match)

I am hoping to participate in the modern and vintage military rifle and pistol matches at the local club this year. 3 targets 10 rounds each per event, 4 events per match, 7 matches in the seaso Mar-Oct. That typically means shooting for score (not counting practice) 210 rounds each .30 carbine, .45 ACP, 7.62x39mm and 7.62x25mm. for a total of 840 rounds. In other words, if the legislative threats and buying panic keep up, I may have to curtail my hobby.

And knowing from personal experience in the 1950s and 1960s that criminals "obtain guns in hard-to-regulate ways from hard-to-regulate sources" as Wright and Rossi put it in their write-up of the NIJ 1982 felon survey, I don't see how inconveniencing the law-abiding really impacts the criminal. Gun control is based on a premise as mistaken as the idea you can outlaw rape by piling restrictions on marriage licenses until rape stops. Or banning alcohol will end the menace of Demon Rum by gum.

At the Tri State gun show yesterday, they had plenty of .223....if you were willing to pay .90/rnd, at case price!!!!!! .22's 555 round federal bulk packs were cheapest $35, (only 1, and was gone fast), up to $65!! Absolutely nuts, I just traded for an EMP in 9mm, and don't have much to shoot :banghead:

The judgement for me will be the gun shows. When the bulk carriers who have been in total ripoff mode for 45 days start lowering their prices, then we will have something. Myself and other savvy shoppers from SGN and WaGuns just have not been paying their prices - but some people have! One particularly large bulk ammo co - who I actually want to like, so I'm not trying to slam them - they were selling their lowest grade bulk .223 for $600..........for 500 rounds!!!

Here at a small gun show in NC, guy had 200 rounds of .223 for $250.... The thing I noticed most about the gun show was that people were huddled around the ammo tables, not the gun tables... JMO
