An accurate .22lr

My CZ Scout shoots very well. No pic's but I shot a 5/8" group at 70 yards last week (rest, 4X scope, CCI Velocitors)
Other CCI ammo (mini mag, SV, Stinger) shot 1" at the same distance. Not bad for a 'youth rifle' with a skinny barrel.

When I had a scope on my 452 Trainer, it would shoot Federal bulk into 1.5" at 100 yards all day long. I've got a target on my reloading bench that I shot with the irons at 50 yards with more bulk ammo that measured 1" for a 10 shot string. Since then, I bought a 20$ DIY trigger kit from Yodave. The gun is just flat-out amazing. When it comes down to it, the CZs take the cake for me. I've shot a few Savages and like them alot too. If you want to use irons...CZ. If you are going to scope it, pick which one feels better to you.

22, most all of my groups are done @ 100yds with the bolt gun. the 2"-ish was at that dist today. the CCI STD VEL is cheap/clean for general sighting in on the 511x. It's also nice for running through the CMMG AR/GSG-5's @ shorter distances flawlessly. its my "go-to" for general plinking.

sorry for off-topic there OP.

Savage,Savage,Savage, get the heavy barreled Savage. I had a savage heavy barreled 22lr that i sold :banghead: and shouldnt have! With the eley match ammo. I could hold 5 shot groups of .320---.420 outside diamiter at 50 yards consistantly. One day i will buy another one. Also the most accurate rifle i ever owned, and ive got a few.:banghead:

Accurate is subjective. That being said, there all accurate.
The deciding factor is the shooter. THe rifle is the platform but the
shooter, he/she is the one who gets the best from it.

Of the few ruger 77/22 i have seem at the range that shot realy well have had the barrels changed to get them competitve with the CZ abd some savages. There is a difference between 2"+ 100 yard groups and sub 1" other than just ammo too.

haveblue83 Yep if you can find a rem 511 series they do tend to shot well for old well shot rifles. I have 511P. Thats what my kids learn with.

From what I've seen, Rugers seem to be hit or miss in the accuracy department, as compared to the Savage and CZ. The CZ does feel like a quality rifle and it is about neck and neck with the Savages that I've seen in terms of accuracy, but I'd have to give the edge in accuracy to the Savage.

The fact is that they will all likely shoot very well for practical purposes, unless you're going to get all wrapped up in shooting groups. Don't forget to check out the offerings from Marlin as well.

sav.250 Accuracy is subjective. And the best out of some is still poop. Lifes to short to keep a poop shooter around long. It sure is fun with you have one that shoots small tight groups.

I think the main differenc between savage and cz is.
CZ has tighter QC and they shoot very well right out of the box
Savages tends to need 250 to 500 shoots to calm down the fliers and some just shoot better ,way better than others. Thank gosh for savage gunsmithing .

andy, did you mention those models due to price or some other reason? If it wasn't price, for around $500 to $800 you could get into a CMP 40X. That would run rings about any Savage, Marlin or CZ.

What makes that M69 special????
The are a classic example of Com-Bloc firearm design. Nothing spent on looks, everything on function.

They look really rough, but they shoot all out of proportion to their cost...at the time it was < $70...they have good barrels, nice triggers and even a three leaf set of folding sights. I remember them being advertised at < $50

Hi, thanks for the suggestion, yes my choice is largely down to price. The CMP 40X is good but at that price wouldn't an Anschutz be better still? Remington, I have heard their QC is almost no existant! If what they have done to Marlin is anything to go by, production of the 39A has ceased due to a large number of them being defective out of the box!

I have owned all three. In my experience, of these three, best to least-best accuracy was as follows: Savage, CZ, then Ruger. While even the 77/22 shot "decent", for the cost, I would have expected much better.

JMHO,

Geno

I have a CZ452. I only did two things to mine.
1. I took it to my local gunsmith and ask him to set the trigger as light as he can before it becomes dangerous.
2. Feed it Eley Tenex ammo.
At 40 meters I can put the bullets through the same hole if I do my part.

And I must still glasbed the rifle, not that it needs it..

The CMPs were made a LONG time ago. What's going on with Remington right now (if anything) isn' even worth considering.

As for getting an Anschutz, a 54 action is going to cost you alot more than the 40X will and it probably won't shoot any better. Among the guys at my range, the custom rifles are pretty much split between 40X and Anschutz 54 actions and comparing the two, it comes down to the shooter. If you thinking that getting into an Anschutz 64 action, as opposed to a 40X, I can't agree. The 40X is a much better rifle.
