What is the BEST 22lr Rifle out there?

I've always liked my Marlin 39; accurate, comfortable, feels like a full size gun. Mine wears a Williams receiver site. I change between 3 different apertures depending on what I'm doing. I noticed nobody mentioned the T/C classic; I never have shot one, but always thought they looked interesting. Anyone have any thoughts or experiences with them?

Well, once you replace 90% of the parts, a 10/22 becomes a pretty nice rifle and I think a well built custom 10/22 would stack up well against any autoloader.

Out of the box though I don't think they have much going for them.

Ruger 77/22 MKII with Bushnell quick find scope for those who dont want to put another $300 into a 10/22 to make a shooter

Winchester Model 72A

Bolt action, tube fed (14+1), iron sights, grooved for scope. Last made in 1959 (started in the late late 30's early 40's I believe). Lightweight, extremely accurate, stone simple, slicker than snot action and a -wonderful- trigger. IF you can find one in decent shape, buy it. You'll thank me later. :D

Modern production .... probably Marlin or CZ.

I'v got ten 22 rifles now (one is still on layaway). I think they're all "the best."

Find 22 you like, at a price you're willing to spend, and you'll probably end up thinking it's "the best."

"GSG-5 is not on your list. I would recommend an SBR and maybe later you can throw a suppressor on it. They are so much fun."

they are a lot of fun! i dont have one, but a quy i shoot with does, the first day he got it he put 1000+ rounds of cheap, old, mise-matched junk .22's through it, with out a single jam.
but as for hunting, i love the winchester 52, but as they are very scarce now, but the kimber is a very good bolt gun, but i really love the marlin 39A lever action.

Savage MkII, I have the BTVS and it shoots tiny little groups. I've gotten .8 MOA 5 shot groups with Remington Thunderbolts.

This one:

And it is a REAL squirrel rifle - you know because of the stock!

Its cheap, has a crisp (maybe a little heavy) trigger, and shoots better than me for now. And... it is SUPER fun to shoot!

OLDer Winchester 94/22 - *love*

CZ 452-ZKM, 24" - best gun for the money. Best Iron sights delivered on a factory .22 ever, and CHEAP. That thing is like a magic wand. It comes to the shoulder like a fine small gauge shotgun and shoots MOA out of the box.

Almost sorry I cut mine down to 20.5" for the woods - but not quite. :)
I got it used, rehab'd the rusty exterior, cut it down, new M1 Carbine front sight, free-floated the barrel. It even comes with sling swivels and an adjustable trigger. I wanted a perfect iron-sighted small game rifle, and this is it. Velocity is higher with the shorter barrel too.

no deerhunter61, its a pump, Wow looks like we got some nice plinkers around here, gotta love them .22's., lets see more pics! if ya got an oldie, dust if off and post a pic! or if its a new favorite!.....

best one i ever shot was my unkles winchester .22 single shot bolt action, that ya had to pull back the fireing pin after ya load it.. dont remember the model?

Winchester 94/22

I've owned many of the 22's that have been listed...if I could have only one it would be a 94/22. At the present time I have a Martlin 39A, a Browning BLR, and a Winchester 94/22. I'd take the Winchester every time. Polished blue steel and walnut with a much slicker action than the other two.

I got a Savage MkII that is pretty good. Has the synthetic stock so it sure isnt a looker. Im trying to find a mag for my first ever rifle, a Marlin 25 I believe, cant pull it out now the wife is sleeping. That sure is a nice rifle. I really want a good target .22 now. Im thinking of the CZ 453 with the set trigger.

Ok. I didn't post this the last time, but since you asked. And yes, I think they're all "the best." Just depends on which day it is which one is.

Oldies? I guess it depends on how you define "old." The Ruger 77/22 on the left is a 1984 the Marlin 39a on the right is a 1982. The second 10/22 from the left has a "no warning" barrel and it's S/N shows it to be a 1977. The Stevens bolt action Model 46, between the 597 Remington and the Marlin, well, I dont know how old that one is. Apparently it's before 1968 since it doesn't have a serial number.

For a light, nice handling, accurate sporter, my vote is for the recently discontinued Remington 504. I bought mine recently for $439.00 (new) and installed an affordable Nikon 4X scope on it mounted as low as possible. I love the trigger, the stock configuration and the flush-mounted magazine.

Like others have opined, there's no good reason to pay less or expect less from a rifle just because it has a smaller hole in the barrel and isn't a centerfire. Why pay more for a rifle you'll shoot less? That's the beauty of having a quality rimfire: you can enjoy shooting it more because you can shoot it cheaper.

Finally, everybody should own a Marlin 39!

I have a decent pawn shop down the street from where I live and I passed by it today. I thought about going in to see what type of 22's they might have for sale but decided not to.

How many of the 22's that you own have you purchased somewhere like a pawn shop?
