Continuing my sacred duty: Previous converting thread, I managed to take another girl shooting, this time a friend of family. Well, she bugged me to take her out, so back to same range it is.

I did find out that M14 and G22 will fit into general issue military rucksack, along with ammo. :uhoh:

Anyway, this is our range, again:

The rusty can lower right is 50m, first target 100m, next ones 300 and 400 and back wall 560m. And many patches of water here&there.

We got there with this thing (same truck as in the beforementioned thread):

Getting to the range was interesting, as the truck had to show what it's capable of several times:

She actually liked the bumpy ride, when it was over it was sad face all over: what? no joyride?

But it was just the beginning. It was around 0 C, so the camera took it pretty hard, resulting in less photos than previous time. But there were plenty of weapons around.

After the G22 was zeroed for 100m it was all set and ready, she did pretty well, later hunting bottle caps at 50m. Pretty good stance, coat that made her hard to see from the target, almost like a pro.

The G3, keeping the post up, was a pretty interesting piece, suppressed as you see. We shot the h€ll out of it, single shots and usually bursts, for fun,

I deliberately gave her few mags to dump in FA mode, for "life isn't Hollywood, ya know" effect. She did Hollywood allright, shot it from the hip, emptying the mag in a hurry. I still kick myself I didn't take the pic of it. It was quite a sight.

As she wasn't used to shoot the centerfire rifles she found the G3 and M14 to be heavy, but when shooting prone supported she did OK.

What can I say, I'm kind of leaned towards the M14 platform :) I actually like this pic, kind of "mess with me, and smilie face goes to warface".

To be continued....

Part 2

She got the hang of shooting the M14 pretty quick.

I'm sure H20 Man agrees, what's not to like.

As she did well with open sights, it was time to put some glass on it, just to see if the target had trimmed the mustache or not.

Anyway, this on here is one extremely resilient bottle cap, taunting her, calling her names. It's a Scarface, as it got winged with the .22 and managed to evade getting shot.

She was taken by the completely different trigger feel, and told me she will start bugging dad about it: "daddy, I really really need that Sniper Weapon System, pleasepleasepleaseeeeee..."

:eek::evil:

So she's hooked and is already asking to take her out again.

EDITED:

Last 3 shots were made during sunset, so the quality drops, and I'm not professional enough to handle the camera better than rifle.

She is true sniper-grade materiel - takes her time (hurrying slowly), controls breath, doesn't push the shot, focuses on the task at hand... A true shooter.

For some reason, your pics aren't showing up. But I did want to mention that I also helped convert somebody. An attorney in the office next to me. We now have three attorneys on our floor who conceal carry, and a fourth one who will be very soon.

Sounds like a good time, but the pictures aren't showing up.

Good work on the convert!

I'm getting the ''dreaded red x'',no pictures, but what really counts is you got to go out shooting, and made a convert while doing it.I'm firmly convinced if we took every''anti'' out to the range,we'd have at least an 80% conversion, and gun control would be an all but dead issue.People fear and dislike the unknown,it's our nature.Once they're a little more comfortable around firearms, they quit trying to rationalize their fear, and enjoy themselves.

I'd really like to see the pictures! See if you can fix 'em.

Good job, by the way! I thought this thread was going to be about a Saiga... I'm glad it was about a person instead. :)

The pics show up for me, but I'll see what I can do, sorry about any inconvenience

Don't show up for me either.

I looked at the source code of this page and the image is located at www.thehighroad.us, not www.thehighroad.org, and apparently it makes a difference because being logged on at www.thehighroad.org doesn't mean you are logged on at www.thehighroad.us.

Here is a cross-post of the subject in question. I downloaded it from www.thehighroad.us, and then uploaded it to www.thehighroad.org.

OK, I get it now. thehighroad.us is Oleg's mirror. I didn't even know it existed until now.

Why would someone host pics on thehighroad.us but post on thehighroad.org? That doesn't make sense.

Anyway, I suggest everyone see www.thehighroad.us also. It makes a claim to the THR crown.

Sorry, I uploaded them all here too (I'm visiting both sites, made the thread there too, and thought that one upload might do). Seems that it was a cross-referencing issue. Something to remember.

Anyway it was all fun and there wasn't enough daylight to shoot everything on site, so she definitely wants to go back out there.

A huge +1 on this, I think also, that people fear the unknown, that's why I have tried to make my small contribution to the big picture.

I am really freaking jealous of your armament, and vehicular transportation.
Why? I'm sure you have a lot more hardware than I do. :)

Cold? That's no near that :) it was barely around 0 C or few degrees below. A pretty silly temperature, I'd say, as it makes nose run like a leaky tap. I'd prefer some -10C or so, makes the ground stiffer - less water, less mud.

Also, we made hot soup and tea in the truck. Almost like a picnic with guns.

I do have to say that Unimog is a good truck. The tracks were some 2 ft deep, here&there, but the truck crawled through those soft spots pretty easily. I do wonder how the battalion's truck managed to get stuck there few days earlier. And when the Unimog gets stuck the road must be awful indeed :uhoh: Exactly a place where to test ride it...

NICE

Wow...where you live looks remarkably like here in New Hampshire USA!! Pines and Birches, etc. Nice shooting range; very similar to the ones around here but you have better distance....the woods are a bit thicker here....mostly shooting in old sand/gravel pits.

Nice ride too!!! So many restrictions around here (White Mt. National Forest) about rigs like that....... keep up the good work!!!

Why? I'm sure you have a lot more hardware than I do.

because of the Fun Switch. ;)
they are hard to come by in the USA, mutch mutch harder to get then in some Euro countrys and cost you up to 20k USD for a single Rifle.

do i see a Sako there? Part2 1 pic? what is it chambered for?

It's not Sako. It's homemade stock for Mosin action and Maxim MG barrel IIRC. Chambered for 7.62x54R. It's not mine so I can't tell much about it. See the attachment.

because of the Fun Switch
Full-auto does have it's uses, but it's mostly turning cash to noise device.

Nonetheless, if the rifle is originally designed as select fire (AK, AR and many others) rifle then why should the civilian counterpart be neutered down (and sometimes the reliability goes with it)? I like and want my weapons to have the full capability they were designed with, the choice of using the FA mode should be my decision, not the polichickens (forcing it to manufacturers) to make it for me. Both the M14s are real ones with deactivated switches. I'm still looking to get the kit to revert it back to original select fire one.

oh, i tought that it is the classic Sako stock and also with the normal Green color, could have sworn it was a TRG. :p

yes, FA is fun to shot and i am a fan of authentic weapons as well.
i am currently playing with the idea to get a glock18, but i am not glock fan in general and paying 3k for a Pistol seems a bit mutch..

I used to live in the north in the USA. I know what you mean about 0C (32F). Sometimes frozen, sometimes not, just messy.

Now 67F is cold to me...brrr...give me 103F and I'm happy :)

Give me -30C and I'm happy, as with +30C . And as I have to shoot within that temperature range it takes a lot of time to actually get the ballistic charts to work (yep, I even got one for G22, out to 200m so far).

3k for G18? G36C costs around 1.5-2k here. MP7 is a tad cheaper, but ammo is hard to find.

Next time out with her I just might have to dig one MP7 out... To tease you all.

Nice pics! Kick ass vehicle too. I need to get my wife out shooting. She likes the pistols, she has never shot a long gun.

Medusa, About where in the world is that place.. The range? It looks like it is my back 40 here in New Hampshire USA...

Cute girl, nice guns, great truck. i have worked on that type of truck for Logan International Airport in Boston, long ago.. The one I worked on could dump snow left, back, or right.

A Unimog, some rifles and a pretty girl ... an afternoon don't get no better than that

Hear hear!

I'm not sure I see a convert though. Sounded like she was interested in the first place.
