Another CCW brethren

My CCW license just arrived the other day and I'm "part of the team" now. Okay, it's not exactly comfortable to carry, a big responsibility, but the primary insurance policy for me and mine when we are out and about.

My wife is still a little nervous about the premise as am I. Not nervous bad, just nervous new, like when I began snowboarding and learned to hurl myself down the mountain a break neck speed. The wrong decision could quickly and instantly, change my life forever in the wrong circumstance. Maybe nervous is the wrong word, apprehensive, overly cautious might apply. It's like when we were doing stupid things as a youth, we just had that feeling that everyone knew what we were doing. Or eveyone can see me printing type of self consciencousness. sp? This will take a little bit to get used to, but all in all, I think getting used to packing upwards of two pounds on my hip will be the biggest adjustment.

i know how you feel i myself am new to ccw, since may of last year. you become more comfortable over. the hardest part is thinking everybody can see, which is not th case, most would not notice if you were open carry. best advice for the "extra 2lbs" purchase a good belt and a good holster, they make up 50% of your rig. try as many holsters as you can

Welcome to the club! You'll get used to it. I'm in a pretty gun-friendly area and worked rescue in my younger days so many LEO's knew me. Made the intro to CCW a lot easier, I'm sure.

Actually, with 1-3 deputies on duty at night in the county, Sheriff reportedly told them: "If you need back up in the south end, call the fire department; they're armed and they'll respond!"

Depending on what you think you'll run into, you might consider a smaller CCW piece.

It is a comforting thought to know you have your gun when traveling to places late at night or in unfamiliar areas.

We can spend a lot of money trying to find the right combination of holsters and guns that fit our needs. I have holsters for all sorts of carry guns and all sorts of carry guns. Looking back its kind of funny the progression I went through.

I have settled on a small, lightweight Kel-tec 380 p3at for my usual carry gun. I have the 32 version in Kel-tec and Seecamp also. Use them from time to time. This is the gun that fits my jeans pocket or dress slacks without causing the pocket to sag or print the firearm while walking.

In the woods or in clolder weather I will opt for a 45 acp 1911.

Its a fun process to go through after receiving your permit and everyone will find a different solution to their requiremnts.

In fact I don't carry all the time. I do when out at night, when traveling, when out walking but not during the daytime usually. Not a good policy, I suppose, but one I am willing to live with.

My thoughts are similar, having never been involved or near any incidents needing a firearm, I doubted my rationalization to get a CCW license. I suspect it will be primarily for the comfort trekking through the woods and the late night trips as you mention. My wife and I do a lot of non-campground camping and having a gun is comforting. Working nights at the moment, it makes a little more sense too.

There was the incident two marines attacking a couple about 5 or more years back in the Mt. Hood Area East of Portland that ultimately sent me down this path.

I'm glad I got it and feel that it is a solid statement as to my freedom as an American and a move towards showing the BG's that CCW will stop crime. Not necessarily by me personally mind you, but by contributing to a higher than average population density of CCW as evident in the PNW.
