Another FLAWLESS performance by Hi-Point!

A friends cousin just got a new "regular" 9mm as opposed to MY compensated 9mm "race gun".Out of the box it was flawless much to the dismay of the local snobs (who werent having such a flawless day).Once again Hi-Point shows up MUCH more expensive and vaunted guns and I LOVE IIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTT!!!

I remember a very long thread lately were people listed their weapons that never jammed.

It was exhaustive. The majority of stock guns might never jam, at the range anyway. "Flawless performance" seems to be the rule, rather than the exception.


This begs the question, who is Tropical Z always shooting around that have these constantly jamming guns to compare with?


I have no doubt that a Hi-Point could work correctly and even accurately. But that doens't make the design elegant or the gun a better choice than anything else. You can reliable fire bullets with a section of pipe and a rock, but that doesn't make that a better firearm than anything else, either.

The Hipoint is kind of the Sten of pistols.

Don't let them give you crap... It's the same no matter what you have, car, paintball marker, bicycle, etc. Many who'll trash you are just jealous that they paid more. Having said that, more expensive guns do come with features/warrantees/whatever that are sometimes not found on cheaper firearms...

But if it goes bang, hits as accurately as you want, and you feel comfortable, who gives a hoot what everyone else says? If you take care of your gun, it'll take care of you.

I know I'm green with envy. When you consider that you can get a whole list of top quality used guns for $200-300 including: Rugers, CZs, Berettas, S&Ws, FEGs, Bersas, FM Hi Powers, Walthers, etc, etc, I really feel like I paid too much. Just think, for half the cost of my FM Hi Power or SS Ruger P95DC, I could have got a Hi Point.

Hi Points are worth 2-3 times more than the ammo in the gun, that is if you cheep ammo. They may go bang more often than not but is that really the point? I mean a lot of guns will go bang every time without resorting to having to own a Hi Point.

I'm just kidding you Tropical Z, I am glad you are happy. Don't mind us, we are snobs in a way. I am not sure if you can really call it snobbery because we are not saying that you should have a $2000 gun, just not the cheapest gun on the market.

The fact that you paint people who don't like Hi-Points as snobs is getting a little tired. Even Hi-Point owners admit they wouldn't carry it with a round chambered because it is not safe. Now what kind of gun is that?

I admit I don't like Hi Points. I don't like SIGs a whole lot or USPs very much either but I don't bash any of them. I can honestly say that I have never witnessed a Hi Point fail. I must admit that, as much as I love 1911s, the guns I see jam most consistantly at the range (when I went to the range) are 1911s. Of course, often times it may be shooter fault and not the guns but I'd be the last person to

I don't like Glocks and I bash them all the time. But just because I bash Hi-Points all of a sudden that makes me a snob? Please.

There are ALOT better choices out there for $200. It's not about being a snob, it's about not liking a fugly piece of junk that isn't safe with a round chambered and looks like a molded brick/paperweight. You can get a new Makarov or CZ-52 or used S&W model 10 or a new Keltec P-11 ect. for the price of a Hi-Point 9mm.

Or you can spend a few bucks more and get something really decent like a new Ruger or CZ-75/85.

I guess when you don't know, you don't know.

I must admit that one time I went out somewhere in the godforsaken Indian reservation to shoot with a buddy and his brother in law. Both of these guys were just getting into guns, and had gone on an AK47 and various handgun buying spree (this was right before Y2K)

The brother in law dude brought along a Glock 21 and a HiPoint in .45acp. We were shooting up a decomposing dead dog and empty firewater bottles when the brother in law whipped out the Hi Point. The first thought in my head was, "Holy crap, *** is that POS?!"

The dude mentioned that he paid only $139 for it, and he liked it "way better" than his Glock 21. True to his word, he shot 300 rounds through the Hi Point that day and only a mere magazine full through the Glock.

My friend, who had never shot a handgun before, tried them both out. He told me in private (so that he wouldn't offend his BIL) that he preferred the Glock. However, I did notice the same pained look on his face that I had when the dude brandished the Hi Point! (maybe a gun snob already in the making) I didn't think much of what he was saying, because he couldn't hit with either!

Now to me. I've got to admit, I was too much of a snob to even shoot the Hi Point. I just nodded my head when he was showing me the Hi Point as to say, "Yeah, cool, dude! That thing is CHOICE!" Then I said, "Naw, that's okay. I don't want to find out a $139 gun is better than my Kimber." when he offered to let me shoot it. My tongue was practically bleeding I was biting it so hard!

Next time I go shooting with those guys, I'll try to give the Hi Point a fair evaluation.

Snob vs. personal preference

I like S&W revolvers. I don't like S&W autos. Their ergonomics and aesthetics leave me cold.
I like Colt autos. Colt revolvers are OK...but there sure not a S&W.
I like Ruger 10/22 Target rifles and MkII 6inch bull barreled pistols.
They could stop making the rest of their line for all I care.

I like most 1911's.
And 10mm.
I doubt I'll ever own a .357 Sig.
That Raven I owned when I was young and dumb was a piece of junk.
I like heavy recoil.

I think DA/SA automatic pistols are a perfect solution in desperate search of a problem.

I like German Mausers, Enfields, and Springfields. Nagants don't do it for me so far.

So what? It's personal preference as well as personal economics.

I HAVE seen failures from a Highpoint. It is the only 9mm pistol that I ever saw keyhole rounds from 7 yards. It jammed about 3 times on every magazine. It was factory new and had never been fired before, and the joker brought it to the CWP class. I have to bet that he ditched it as soon as he could afterward.

And the main jammer the Hi-Point was going up against this particular time was a certain "American" manufacturer's mostly Brazilian made "old" design who everybody always recommends as a new purchase.This certain pseudo American semi was quite adept at pretending it was a close cousin to grape jelly.Both guns were new.What can i say? Some guns are shooters and some just look nice!
