Another Goofy Outdoor World Experience

I've always folded the head over on my silouhette targets. When I first started shooting someone told me it helps to keep them from blowing around so much. It seems to help and I aim for COM anyway.

Since April 1st (no joke!), shooting at targets shaped like human silhouettes is strictly forbidden in Germany. Training in "defensive shooting techniques" is not allowed unless you're LE, a hunter or have a license to carry.
Well, no problem, I use upright oval targets. ;)

Last year I took my 15 year old Granddaughter to the range for her first ever experience with a gun. After explaining to her how to put in the foam earplugs and explaining that yes she still had to wear headphones I started to pick out targets.

I was picking targets with bullseyes, she was 15 and had never shot before, when I heard an HMMMM HMMMM, when I looked at her she said "What about those?" I said you want to shoot at targets that look like people and she said "well-- Yeah!"

Proud Grandpa I am. She shot very good for her first trip.

She has the targets in her room on the wall to show to all of her friends.

I believe that humanoid targets of any sort are taboo at the public ranges in Contra Costa County here in CA. At Chabot they said they didn't want to be on the 5:00 news as a group training malitias, but that may have been tongue in cheek. However in the next range over they are running IPSC, IDPA, PPC and CAS. If the public tires of circles they have the option of expanding their horizons into competitive shooting.

I remember reading about an silhouette type target called the "two-headed monster", which I believe was being used somewhere in Europe. Instead of having a square head centered on the torso, it had two squares, one above each shoulder, with a blank space in between. While practicing, most shooters were targeting the blank space. :D

I'm glad I live in Arkansas. We can shoot just about whatever we want, targets I mean, on the outdoor ranges. I wouldn't recommend shooting pictures of GWB or the Clintons...ect. At the indoor ranges if you use a cardboard backing you can staple the silouettes, IDPA, IPSC, or humanoid target to the cardboard to do head shots. Reason being so you don't hit the hangers.
