Editing a 112MB file on a 350MHz Mac was slow...but this did end up a 4000x3300 pixel image. I have some ideas for tweaking the text, but would rather apply them to yet another pair of images.

I don't think the girl looks quite dead in the first photo. In fact, I think she looks quite attractive in the first photo. :uhoh: But it conveys your message, so I suppose that's all that matters.

"More dead" would have been more realistic...and unnecessary, in my opinion. Some other image I will make that way, but this one would be better for the fence-sitters to view and consider without recoiling at the ghastliness.

Not "more dead" but rather more obviously dead/injured. Maybe make it clear she's down by showing more of her actually on the ground. No need for blood or nothin', just an unnatural pose. The amount of body shown would also then parallel the other photo of her.

Also, more parallel structure for the text (with that "obviousing" change being made to the photo)

Which last view of her would you prefer to be seen?

Her grieving family's? / Or her would-be rapist's?

I'd make the two texts match up -
her family gets to remember her like this | a would-be rapist gets to remember her like this

or

her family gets to see her like this | a would-be rapist gets to see her like this

And I'd add a little cyanosis to her lips.

Yes I like it. To make it more obvious you could show a little more of her upper body and some of the chalk out line that the police had put down.

I love the poster and 99% of the time I think Oleg's first instincts are the best.

But, since this poster implies that the lady died at the hands of a rapist, she shouldn't look so good.

Rape is a crime of violence NOT a crime a passion.

In most cases the woman is slapped around at least a little if not outright pummeled. For her to expire during a rape she more than likely would have been beaten severely.

Which of course would make it even more horrific for the family members that would have to identify the body.

One alternate possibility could be, since the first image is in B&W, placing the model on a smooth neutral background to indicate laying on a "slab" and cover her upper body with a black trashbag to give the appearance of those creepy morgue sheets.

The image of a beaten, violated woman with the ice of death in her eyes would be a much more powerful contrast to the image of a feisty, determined woman with the fire of life in her eyes.

The model is unavailable for a re-shoot at present. Perhaps, I will re-make the image with a more convenient subject or retouch the existing image.

A CZ-52 for a CCW? Rapists wear body armor down there? :uhoh:

I do like the concept, especially re-shooting the 'dead' picture on more of a mortuary table. Maybe use some makeup to give her an abrasion on her forehead?

I think a "deader" look could be accomplished by making her lighter (gamma up) and as for retouching, dull her eyes. Actually, going pure B&W would help with that first photo.

I vote for more dead. With bruises and contusions. This is something that needs to shock. If this was getting pamphletted around a college, I'd do two parts... The first, with what looks to be either a dead or a severely beaten female, and the second, stapled up in other areas, of the same female with a gun. I'd also go with a firearm that's easier to see - which means lighter clothing.

Karo syrup with food coloring works. Use B&W for the photo. Also, do it right side up, make it look like it was taken for evidence or on a table for ID purposes. I'm sure you've seen 'em - they look like very unhealthy mug shots.

More dead.....

Either have her with her eyes closed (as if the techs closed them)... or have her face half covered by a white sheet as if they are going to "ID" the body.....

The concept is perfect. In fact, if I had the money, I'd put it on huge billboards everywhere.

However, the girl does need to look more obviously dead. There must be artistic ways to accomplish that without it looking gastly. There is no need to freak out children, even though they, too, need to get the message. The chalk line is one or maybe a vauge morgue autopsy scene.

On the pic that you have, can you change the color some or tough up the eyes to look more lifeless? Maybe just make it look more like a police evidence photo (lower quality snapshot taken in poor lighting) rather than your quality portraits.

As I said, the concept is what I would like to display on billboards all over states contemplating a new CCW law.

Suggestion for the first pic...

How about just a pic of a body on a gurney fully covered by a sheet or in a body bag. No blood or gore, just a corpse. Perhaps even from the perspective of the morgue cooler door.

This subject hits close to home, a couple of weeks ago one of my cousins was raped and beaten to death.

SMLE let me say that I am so sorry for your loss. I know that it is a terrible thing to lose family, my heart goes out to you. :(

Oleg- great work as always. Gets the point accross very well.

I say make it more graphic. Dead girl with pantyhose around her neck and blue lips.
Live girl in a skirt/dress with pantyhose, displaying gun. Make the gun a bit more obvious, maybe with the business end pointed into the camera.

I must say, though, you do damn fine work, Oleg.

If you get a chance here's my vision:
Scene, playground. In the background, a child is on some equipment. Guy is trying to drag the child off the equipment, child holding on for dear life.
In the foreground on one side of the photo, show the hip of a person beginning to draw from concealment.
"Concealed Carry Laws: It is for the children."
