Stunning concept

Your outstanding talent in depicting interesting/beautiful faces works against the effect in this particular instance.

I understand the model is not available for a re-shoot, but for future reference - - This TYPE photo is usually hurriedly composed and taken by a police forensics person or a morgue technician more concerned with getting the task out of the way than a pleasant depiction.

The lighting at a crime scene is usually either inadequate with consequent underexposure, or else suffers from way too much strobe. Background can be wrinkled sheet, carpet, or upholstery. A smudge or two, perhaps a small amount of dark stain at one corner of the mouth . . .?

In the hospital morgue or the ME's autopsy room, the background is nearly always a stainless steel table or institutional tile with dark grout. Sometimes, the body is on a not-very-smooth sheet - - Surgical green or blue, occasionally white. The blood has almost always been cleaned up, but as outfieldjack suggested, the techs have probably closed the eyes. Seems as if one eye is usually just slightly open. The face should be fully exposed. There's either a sheet pulled all the way up to the chin, or else there's no covering and the photo edge is right down around the collarbones. The hair is mussed.

Oleg, all this is nit picking. Your concept is clear, and brings to my mind the hundreds of such photos I've seen -- and sometimes took myself.

Nice work, as usual.

Johnny

I'd go with the suggestions of changing the skin color for the 'more dead' look. Another option, as already mentioned, maybe have her lying in a body bag. Take the pic the same way as far as how much of her you see, but have the bag zipped all the way up to her neckline and take the pic.

Or you could take the pic from the completely different angle not even showing the faces. For the dead pic, you could get shots from her feet end looking up towards the rest of her body, with the legs at wierd angles. You don't necessarily have to show any skin. And then the armed pic, you could show extended arms holding a pistol in the ready position.

At any rate, nice job.

lighter colored shirt, make her more dead looking in first pic = winner, which I will print out multiple copies and hang around my college :D

My thought was to have a set of pantyhose twisted around her neck, or markings from "rope burns". Keep the picture black&white

I have more images of this person with pistols and without, perhaps I can retouch them to make the concept work better. Failing that, will re-shoot. I tried to press old images into use, and maybe I need to use them as a guide for newer photos. Thanks all for the input.

I wanted the pistol subtle, but have a more in your face image (blurry muzzle almost touching the lens) and also a zoomed out view of the body which I can overlay with abrasions.

PS: I fixed some links on my RKBA site today. Need to figure out how to update it, will try to press the "gallery" format into use for the ease of updates. Have so much new and updated content I hardly know where to start...

I had to actually look for the gun...

Its a problem with a lot of pics I see on the net Oleg, it isnt your work thats the problem. Most of the time, I like my dark monitor.

How about this...

"It's a matter of 'who goes first'..."

"The victim..." (above crime scene photo)
"or the rapist." (above muzzle shot)

Great stuff as always, Oleg.
You are an inspiration to us all.

I was thinking a simple body under a sheet.

Or what about depicting the horror of rape? Depict an alive but otherwise brutally traumatized young lady. You are so adept at capturing the inner beauty and strength of young women that to counterpoint that with a portrait of the psychological destruction of rape could be very powerful.

Put a drop shadow on "Which Would you Want" that matches the "Guns Save Lives" text. Also, consider using a different font for "Guns Save Lives" something that seems more immediate.

Also, clip the tail of the arrow that bisects the horizontal line so that it's uniform.

well my tv-watching has told me that most families of the victims dont see them at the crime scene. they identify it on a slab in the morgue.

and since thats what most people would recall, it might have more impact if you simply showed a bodybag with the zipper just starting to be unzipped.
wouldnt need to come up with fancy makeup , just the forehead and hair could be all that is visible.

and while the text is simple enough, many people still believe the myth that if you dont resist the rapist or mugger will let the victim live. so potential fence sitters may mistakenly think its an exaggeration. maybe if the text mentioned somehow that the would-be rapist would kill her it might work. or it might make it too wordy.

The would-be rapist doesn't need to necessarily kill her nor does she need to kill him for the gun to have been an effective crime prevention tool.

Actually, I really liked the way it shows the gun being drawn rather than staring down the barrel. Allows the viewer to believe that the bad guy fled at first sight of an equalizer and that one otr the other ending up dead are not the only options.

Better?

Wow!!!

That's awesome. Great work, I wish we could put it on like 10,000 billboards.

Awesome pics, very clear and potent message.

Although, to be honest, its a bit unnerving to see the girl I love looking like that.

To make up for the ghastly images, here's a happy photo of your girlfriend and THR's Amish Bill:

CZ52 is sized just right for her.

LOL! Thanks Oleg.

The perspective in that shot makes her look even smaller than she is, especially next to that hulking brute bill.
