I am not a wheel gun person at all (despite my last name!), I think I've fired a total of two revolvers in my life, and one of those was a cap and ball gun.

But I've got one -- an early Webley, with the "rounded" (what did they call that, bird's head?) grip. It's blown up. My grandfather's famous "one mistake". The gun had been (as so many were) modified to fire some American .45 and couldn't handle it.

I've always loved the looks of these, and the "history" (even if some is fictional, like Indiana Jones carrying one).

I check around every now and then for these, but from those who know: how hard is it to find these early guns? What about the later .455s? I have no interest in the .38s.

What about shooting these? I'd love to have a "good shooter" -- just something to go out with every now and then.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Keith - sad to here of a blow-up. I have a .455 Webley MkVI amd feed it only occasionally and light loads.

May I suggest - do a search in this forum for ''Webley MKVI'' or something close - we have had threads on it and I think you might find some interesting material.

I load for mine BTW - Fiocchi brass, and oversize 230 grain LRNs, which normally would see use in 45acp ammo. Light powder charge.

You may find prices go high - tho condition will make a big difference. Have a look at this thread if you haven't already http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=170563 - pic of mine there and some posts by others.

Kieth:

I go for years without seeing a Webley. This is not one of those years, as I know where 3 currently reside in gunshops nearby.

One at Gunmasters in Plano, TX. Two more at Jackson Armory in Dallas, TX.
