Wonder could anyone help me trace the origin of a recently-discovered Antique Rifle..
It's a .303 with a fixed magazine.
The only markings on it are:

Genova.
KU9717.
1890.
Presume 1890 is the year of manufacture.
Any advice please?
Thanks.

.303? Sounds more like a Mannlicher. The first .303's were Lee-Metford, but had nothing to do with Genova.

Maybe the Brits sold a Lee Metford to the Ethiopians and it was captrued by the Italians :D

What leads you to believe that it is a .303?

Any caliber markings, or just the markings you describe above?

If you have any access to a digital camera, you'll get a solid answer within an hour of posting up a couple clear photos. Some things are far easier to say in pictures than with words.

Sounds cool though, I'll look forward to seeing the pics.
