I just saw this from the NRA news. So now the anti's are getting free billboards.

I think that we should pull some strings, maybe start a donation fund, and rent some billboards for some of Oleg's posters. What do you guys think?
Who would be able to set something like this up?

*EDIT*
I just found this in activism. It seems like a fellow Highroader discovered this before I did. I suggest that we all email Clear Channel Outdoor and voice our discontent.

Moms Against Guns given free billboards
They were donated by two local firms. The group backs election of foes of illegal guns.

In April, Moms Against Guns had a humble request: one affordable billboard advertising its petition for stricter gun laws.

Flash forward three months, and the Philadelphia-based advocacy group now has 27 billboards citywide, with at least six more on the way.

The billboards will stay up through November's elections - just long enough, the group says, for voters to elect candidates willing to crack down on illegal guns.

It's all part of what founder Lynne Honickman called a viral campaign.

"Everybody has a power: the power to vote," Honickman said. "Not until the general public says 'enough' will the politicos do their duty."

The group is working on getting 50,000 signatures for a petition on its Web site (http://www.momsagainstguns.org) urging state lawmakers to pass tougher gun laws. The petition has nearly 4,500 so far.

The billboards come free from Clear Channel Outdoor Philadelphia and Interstate Outdoor Advertising, two locally based firms.

"We didn't think a billboard was going to make a difference," said Drew Katz, chief executive officer of Interstate. "Thirty billboards might make a difference."

The slew of billboards reflects a sense of urgency as gun violence continues to claim lives.

As of yesterday, there were 175 homicides this year in the city. Of those, 138 were committed with handguns, two with rifles and four with shotguns, said Lt. Frank Vanore, a police spokesman.

"It's obvious that guns on the street are a major, major problem," Vanore said.

He cited another statistic: Over the last year, three police officers were killed and several others were shot. It is becoming "very, very dangerous to face" gun-toting criminals, he said.

The campaign by Moms Against Guns has the support of Mayor Nutter, who has tried to pass tougher gun laws, while Harrisburg legislators have bristled.

Yet, as Honickman acknowledged, the campaign is preaching to the choir. "The inner city knows its problem," she said, noting strong pro-gun sentiments across much of the state.

Honickman would like to raise billboards outside Philadelphia. "We are statewide," she said, "but whether someone is going to give us billboards is another issue."

In the meantime, Honickman said she hoped the petition would get the legislature's attention.

"We need to fight this fight," she said. "It's an uphill fight, which it shouldn't be."

how many times do the Harrsburg legislators have to say "**** off" before Philly gets the message?

Harrisburg should give New Jersey a huge gift - the entire city of Philly. Just like the French gave us the Statue of Liberty. Then everyone's happy.

Anybody see the irony in their acronym?

Moms Against Guns.

Maybe they should tack on a little more to the name...

Never Usually Meaningful.

Gun violence claims lives of unarmed citizens...Quick! More billboards urging further disarmament!

No thank you, we have enough problems already here in NJ !
The entire corridor between NY and Philly needs a boatload of bleach, and then some! :barf: :barf: :barf:

I thought it was the Police departments job to crack down on illegal guns, not the "candidates". I will say this, nothing in Philadelphia surprises me any more - especially with Nutjob, I mean Nutter in office. When will they ever learn that handicapping the law-abiding population doesn't work. They need to add mandatory sentences to anyone who commits a felony with a gun, w/o any plea deals.

Organize, and get the word to those who advertise with Clear Channel (outdoor or otherwise--bring the radio arm in and you can really make it hurt) and Interstate Outdoor Advertising. "We're law-abiding Pennsylvania gun owners, and we vote with our dollars. Use the enemies of liberty as an advertising vehicle and accept the financial consequences of perfidy."

You might want to tone that down a bit, since I doubt one in ten people can tell you what perfidy means without cracking open a dictionary.

Yeah, I see this one or some derivative of it on a very regular basis.

To which I say: how does one propose to control "illegal" guns? The usual response, of course, suggests tighter gun laws. But...aren't "illegal" guns already "illegal?" :uhoh:

Cue the old quote about the limits (or lack thereof) of human stupidity...

Alan Kowin's ideas for pro-gun billboards:

http://www.gunlaws.com/billboards.htm

The gunshop around the corner from my home has on of these outside, sponsored by Gunsite. One side says "Guns Are Why America Is Still Free", and the other side says "You Have the Right To Own A firearm. You Have The Responsibility To Learn How To Use It".

That's a great site, Jesse.

Anybody in the Philadelphia area want to help get a billboard campaign going?

It'd be nice to get one going in Crook, I mean Cook, county in Illinois. You know, get them to realize what they're missing out on. The rest of the U.S. has the right to protect themselves with firearms.

I CAN'T FRIGGIN' BELIEVE IT!

Things aren't like they used to be, back when I grew up...back then, we didn't need guns...we just put up "Gun Free Zone" signs and if any criminals came by, we called the police!
