Any AK fans here?

My SAR1 with this 8x POSP scope on it is easily my favorite rifle. I can put the scope on it and get in the black out to 125 yards. I can take the scope off and bump fire it just for kicks. I can look through the iron sights and blast at pumpkins, ice, washing machines, and other goods consigned to destruction at a friend's ranch.

I even slap a 5 round mag in it and take it hunting because:
-Florida Deer are small.
-I have never seen one out past 100 yards anyway.
-It would really piss the liberals off to be out in the woods hunting as a "legitimate sportsman" with an Ay-Kay ForteySevehn.

For my money a SAR1 is the most versatile, fun, and all around awesome rifle you can have.

Maybe its not a real AK but the Saiga seems to be a real bargin & I've read very good things about them. I saw one of the 7.69 x 39 at my local shop today for $199. That seems like a pretty good price. TimH

Do the 2003 SAR1s still have issues wih canted sights and gas blocks? Wondering how bad an idea it is to order if one can't be found locally.

Ringer, from what I have read online, the 2003s seem to be a lot better in that regard. Century will let you return within 30 days, if necessary.

I'm sure it's a fine and wonderful weapon...but whenever I see one all I can think of is illiterate third worlders in flip-flops blasting away on full-auto from the hip.

not to say it's not a good gun, it just has that "clip on tie on a polyester shirt" aura to me- kinda trailer trashy.

(flame suit- ON Shields- UP *grin*)

okay, blast away...

well, I just got back from the range, and put 120 rounds through my SAR1....

Oh yeah, she shot very well... I was hitting a sewer grate at a 100 yeards unsported. I dont have the front sight adjusted yet, it just needs a hair I think. Anyways, she's a great little gun, and for a poor college student, its about the best I can do.

And besides, I love the 7.62 x 39 :D

Didn't post a pic earlier but -- just took an updated pic, now it has a red dot fitted. You have to excuse the fugly stock .... it's a cheap mak 90, fitted purely cos it makes for a better fit .. well, it did - but .. maybe now, if red dot proves OK long term, I'll put it back to ''normal''!

Ever since the late '80s when I first handled a Norinco AK. Since then there have been PolyTech sidefolders, MAK-90s, SLR-95s, Romak-3 & 5.45 SAR-2s. I just love the simplicity & ruggedness of the AK design (I even have an autographed photo of Mr. Kalashnikov).

Define "fan"...

If, by "fan", you mean "Do you like your AK?", then the answer is "Yes."

If, by "fan", you mean "You think the AK is the ultimate super weapons system, AR fans are pansies, FAL/G3/M1A's are for people richer and less recoil-sensitive, and I'm gonna name my firstborn Mikhail!", then the answer is "No."

;)

I love my SAR-1, but the next thing I'm buying for it is a Red Star Arms trigger. That trigger slap is getting a tad too annoying. But, ya gotta love it when you throw 75 rounds down range as fast as you can pull the trigger. Just throw on a bipod and you've got yourself an impromptu light support weapon.

my favorite firearms are AK's & SKS rifles! I like Russian designed weapons.

I guess you could say I like AK rifles. As I have AK's chambered for 5.45x39mm,5.56x45mm,7.62x39mm,7.62x51mm,and 410 shotshells. Also have my home page devoted to them.

Can't think of anything much more fun than bump firing a 100 rd drum in a AK rifle unless naked women are involved. I have been collecting them since I bought my first one in 1990.

I do a lot of work with an MP5 and CAR15 for work, but I come to the AK104 for my personal stuff. It's not as light or balanced as the other two, but it sure seems to hit nice, and is extremely reliable for everything I want it for. I own an SAR3 I'm going to modify to a AK102 replica, and have a SAR1 and WASR10 I loaned to a couple uncles to shoot. SInce I got the AK104 it seems I don't use the other two as much.

They are probably the most rugged and reliable self-loading rifles in existence. No trigger slap at all, and the trigger on my SAR-1 is MUCH smoother than the one on my mini-14.

Magazines don't get much cheaper (20-rounders at TAPCO for 5.99 each, and are handier than 30-rounders).

since it's my only rifle at the moment i love my amd-65, mags/ammo/accessories are all low cost and work very well.

i just wish i could find an ak-103 to keep it company.
