Those "finicky" AK47's.

i have a WASR thats been perfect for about 2000 rounds.

it's worked when the receiver was full of dust and sand, and after taking a bath in a muddy creek bed.

i use military surplus mags, never tried the aftermarket synthetic jobs.

I have a WASR 2 that has mag wobble problems cause failure to feed regularly. The top cover also rubs against the bolt carrier, but it didn't stop it from functioning.
I have a VEPR that is near perfect. Had one mag catch the bolt once. I tagged that mag. No other problems.

On the other side, I have an Amralite that is functioning very reliably. I had to get it broken in, but after 400 or 500 rounds, it is very smooth. Only problems have been with bad mags and cheap ammo that came apart in the chamber.

My Century Arms built SAR1 has never jammed once. I had some horrible trigger slap though, but I fixed that with a new FSE hammer/sear/trigger and some minor dremel work.

My multiple ARs have never jammed once (all built by me). They also have really sweet triggers.

My M1 Garand (built by Deans Guns Restorations) and my two FALs (built by me) have never jammed once either.

I consider them all reliable rifles. I'd probably choose a FAL if I had to drag it though the mud though. I like the bigger round and better ergonomics.

Only time my AK(7.62) didnt work was when I loaded a round of .223 in the mag by mistake. Im kind of pissed though:cuss:, I thought these things were susposed to shoot anything.;)

I'm curious about all those "finicky" AKs we hear so much about on the ErrorNet, too.

After several thousand rounds each through my SLR-95 and SAR-1, the only failures to fire I had were attributable to operator error (I forgot to wind the drum magazine) and one handload without adequate crimp, that pushed the bullet into the case vs. feeding into the chamber. That's it, otherwise, zip, zero, nada malfunctions. I kind of expected to see some when I bought the SAR-1, because it looks rough as a cob compared to the nicely-finished Bulgarian SLR-95. But they both work, and I have no doubt they will continue to do so. I just wish my Colt Competition HBAR were as reliable... :(

I guess I also forgot the AK bb-gun. And the BIZON is as much an adaptation of the AK design as the 9mm ARs are of the standard AR-15 design.
