Any chance Ruger will ever reintroduce a 44 mag semi auto carbine?

cant believe they discontinued the lever action rifles in the same calibers...great rifles...guess like anything else that is excellent....they discontinue.

Nope balrog I am with you I hope they do reintroduce it I walked away from a very clean used one for 500 out the door I still am kicking myself for that one :cuss: :banghead:

I think the more states that are "shotgun only" for deer hunting the now allow pistol caliber as well, the better the chance the Ruger would bring it back. This seems like a good market for them to enter. I think the 77/44/357 series is a good step, but I would like to see a SA as well.

I needed another reason to go buy another gun thanks 416 I'm drooling I love how it looks I bet it carries like a dream

I don't think it sold all that well. Not a huge market for a 44mag deer rifle. Now, if they re-released it with a 10 round scaled up 10/22 banana mag and called it the hog-slayer I bet they would sell a thousands of them. make it in 357 as well and they would sell tens of thousands.

I was going to get one when they were out, but the tiny mag capacity sent me to a marlin. Still kind of wish I had one, though I am happy with the marlin.

Greyling I can see it now the new and improved hog slayer :D I'm almost in tears imagining some giant fat guy running around in "tactical gear with hog slayer painted black talking about making a 20 round mag by taping two together" :p :neener: :p

I like the image. But jokes aside, I really do like the concept of a semi auto 44 or 357 with 10 rounds in a lightweight package. I'm not an engineer, but surely they could make it work without too much effort. Re-purpose the mini14 action, use somebody's single stack rimfire mag design to make one work. They already make barrels in those calibers for their bolt guns. Market it for either home defense or hogs and you have a built in target market. Make the gas system tunable so I can use my reloads without having to run full bore and it would be perfect. This could work. They could even make a variant similar to the gunsite rifle with the scout rail and adjustable pull laminate stock to appeal to a more modern audience.

I'd probably buy an updated version of Ruger's .44 carbine. 44 mag has quickly become one of my favorite rounds to load and shoot, a modern little semi auto would be a blast.

Hey I am with you Greyling I agree I think 10 rounds of 44 mag goodness would be awesome

I've got a 77/357 that I love, I'd buy a Ruger semi in .357 tomorrow. I actually thinking of trading my mini 14 for the next clean 99/44 I run into.

There is something to be said for small powder charges and cast bullets as far as a gun for playing at the range. No more .22lr for me.

I'd like to have one. I just bought a 77/44, and I'd like to make that a silent destroyer. An auto .44 Mag with 10 rounds would be a dream to carry in the woods.

One of the few guns I own that if another came along I would buy it in a heartbeat. I bought my first in the mid to late 60s at a cost of around $120. Today, when I do see any they are in the $500 to $600 range.

If they had a 10 round mag I would be in. I used to have an early Deer Slayer serial 2XXX.

Great gun. About the only Ruger of dozens that I have owned that had a nice trigger.

But I couldn't live with the tube magazine. When they went back in production the minuscule capacity mag wouldn't get me to bite.

Other than the mag capacity though I loved the gun. Fun and cheap to shoot, and great to carry.

Man I would be all over one in 357, been thinking about getting a 77/357 as it is but if there was even a rumor that a semi 357 was coming out I would wait for it.

One of those guns that has a small niche market. I wouldn't be surprised to see a limited run from time to time to meet demand. There isn't enough interest to make them full time. Ruger reintroduced a similar gun as well as a lever action a few years ago. They sold quickly at first, but after everyone who wanted one bought one they really had trouble selling them. The levers were plagued with problems that didn't help matters either.

I don't think it sold all that well. Not a huge market for a 44mag deer rifle.

The Ruger Model 44 was produced from 1961 to 1985, and then the Model 99/44 was produced from 2000 to 2006...Looking at serial number history, production appears to have been in the hundreds of thousands...

The Marlin 1894 in .44 Mag has also been made for decades, and has about the same numbers having been produced...

I guess it comes down to what the word "huge" means as far as market share goes...

It's kinda funny. When the original .44 (Deerslayer?) was discontinued, I found myself wanting one. After redesign and reintroduction as Deerfield Carbine I wasn't interested initially but when it, too, was discontinued, I just had to get one. I was lucky enough to find a NIB Deerfield in a gun store two years later.

It may have something to do with human nature.

I remember that Gorilla ad. "with terrifying cry", IIRC. :) yes, men are so "put upon" by gorillas. 50 or so years ago, Cooper had the gorilla as one of the "big five" trophies for handgun hunting. I can think of about a billion other 2 legged critters that would be better suited, altho not for stuffing.

I'd buy one in a heartbeat. 44mag semi-auto from Ruger. 10 round mags. If it was as reliable as my 10/22 and as accurate it would be a hit. Short range hog and deer killing machine (or 2 leg predators as well). Wonder what the price of a new one would run? It is just hard for me to believe that Ruger hasn't already re-introduced a modern version of it.
