Any experience with a Dan Wesson in .38 Super?

I've never had to change any extractors to run 38 Super Comp cases. A few have needed to be tweaked a little, others run both the rimless Super Comp and semi-rimmed brass as is.

That has been my experience as well.

To solve any extraction issues, I just use Starline 38 Super Comp/9mm Largo cases since I also swap the 38 Super barrel out for a 9mm barrel. And yes the Starline 38 Super Comp brass is the same as the Starline 9mm Largo brass, other than what's stamped on the case head.

@Atrox88 this is a great deal. I have been looking for that model on and off over the years.

if you decide not to get it, see if the seller is willing to ship :).

In my insignificant experience, super is a great, precise round.

The recoil is more back rather then the 'snappy up'. Which is what many would prefer.

It does what a sig .357 does but a lower pressure, so better for recoil and reloading (but as a con - pistols will have lower capacity, larger grip size).

I've shot a lot of .38 Super over the years but not in a Dan Wesson pistol.

I've had a Colt Combat Commander from the middle 70's, a .45 ACP gun originally, that I bought extra Colt manuf. slide/spring & bbl's assemblies for in both a .38 Super & 9mm. The gun has always perked with any of the three calibers, and aside from the obvious magazine requirements, the only parts changed were the 9mm/.38 Super Ejector (which worked equally well with the .45 upper) and the necessary recoil springs.

I gave the gun to my #2 son a decade ago, but kept the extra upper units which have worked out equally well on my Ruger 1911 CMD in .45 ACP. BTW, I also have both Ciener and Marvel .22 LR uppers which work just fine with both guns...making them 4 caliber pistols!

Just a little extra info: the 9mm unit will cycle just fine with either 9mm or .38 Super magazines, but the .38 needs its dedicated ones which lack the spacer used in the 9mm's. Also, of the three center-fire calibers, both guns are most accurate with the .38 Super upper, but only by 1/2" or so at 25 yds. And either barrel will work in either the 9 or .38 slide with no change in POI. Lastly, of the two .22 LR units, the Marvel is more accurate; good enough even for Bullseye competition at the club level.
Best Regards, Rod (used to have a pic or two but lost 'em I changed over to Postimages).

I purchased a 1968 built COLT 1911 SUPER 38 as COLT called em. At that time COLT was headspacing em on the semi rim. I found that ever company that made ammo , made the rim a different thickness.
Accuracy was kaput!! In 1985, while stationed in Kodiak, AK, I sent the frame out to be hard chromed, the slide was bead blasted and blued, ( when I purchased the gun was rusty, bad, frame and slide both), had a BAR STO match barrel and bushing put in, at that time BAR STO was the only company headspacing that round on the case mouth, like a 45, high profile fixed sights, BOMAR I THINK, and a beavertail grip safety, as I am prone to hammer bite. I still have that pistol, and shoots like a dream. I do handload, and found out long ago, same powder, bullets, and primers as a 9 mm, which I also load for

I have always enjoyed shooting that gun. Oh yeah, the mags are the same as a 9 mm, minus a short follower, and extender in the back of the magazine to take up the difference in length

When I purchased my gun in 1976, was told it was about as powerful as a medium loaded 357

I have heard RIA, SPRINGFIELD, COLT, SDS (TISAS) AUTO ORDNANCE, ALL MAKE 38 SUPER GUNS

ALSO , when I purchased my gun in 1976, I had never heard of or seen a 38 super. Now they are pretty common, and when a lot of competitors used 38 super to make major, I was hoping ammo cost would come down, and that never happened!!

until I actually purchased a 9mm pistol from buds, which is a ramped barreled SDS pistol, I had purchased an ED BROWN standard 9 mm match barrel and bushing, that worked great in my COLT 38 super.
I did have to switch magazines, and recoil springs but other wise worked great. The 9 mm mags are the same size as the 38 super mags, but have a spacer in them to take up the extra space in the mag
