Hi all,

I have recently taken up and now become addicted to clay shooting (not great yet but keep on trying!!). Everyone I have met so far at the shooting grounds has been really helpful and I have been pleasantly surprised by the welcome and acceptance of a women to the sport by the male shooters. At the moment I shoot with my Dad, boyfriend and boyfriends brother and as yet have not managed to persuade any females friends/family to participate. It would be nice to have some female company as well. Therefore, has anyone got any suggestions of where I can meet some females to shoot with who are as equally addicted to clay shooting as me. I live in the Midlands, UK.

Look forward to your suggestions :)

Come to the states ? I had a wonderful instructor to teach me to shoot a shotgun for sporting clays .The name escapes me at the moment but he was an old timer on a visit from Penzance .Are there organizations for women shooters there ?

Wales or the Midlands?

Welcome.

Not a woman shooter, but I have enjoyed Welsh hospitality and explored the Midlands and Wales from canoeing and rambling the Lake District to cycling the Isle of Angelsey over the years. Did a bit of fishing with a friend of mine up there too, rough fishing not sport. Couldn't afford the sports licenses for decent beats on the rivers.

I used to work with an ad agency that had a major office in Manchester.

My wife and 3 daughters all enjoy shooting. mainly target with rimfires, but the wife get's a kick out of shooting my Mil Spec .45 at the outdoor ranges. My 100 pound "skinny as a rail" daughter can handle it too.

Just wanted to say Hi and welcome.

Don P.

My significant other shoots clays, but we're down south I'm afraid. I know plenty off women who shoot but as I said, they're all down this end.

Nice to hear you've taken up the sport and are enjoying it :) Good luck and welcome to THR :D

Welcome to the fun world of going bang! Although I don't shoot shotgun, I will shoot rifles, but handguns are my favorite. I'm a pistol instructor and a leader of a grassroots political action committee that focuses on gun rights in Ohio.

So welcome aboard from across the pond!:)

Cymrugirl,

Welcome to THR!

Another guy in the US that lives in the South.
Just wanted to welcome you and express how tickled I am to hear of another lady clay shooter. I assist with ladies and shotgunning.

Come on over to Shotgun Forum , and tell us about your guns and all.

Steve

Welcome to the fun of shooting, Cymrugirl!
I'm a woman shooter, don't shoot shotgun much, but I LOVE old military rifles and pistols...
I'm F A R from the UK, though.
There's a few of us out there:D

I thought all of the firearms related activities had been banned in Britain.

No,not quite all of them have been, but thanks to MRs Micheal "Rambo" Ryan and the deranged Thomas Hamilton actions in 1987 and in 1996,we were officially stripped of all centrefire sls and pump rifles and later of all standard-length handguns.Read up on posts about the Hungerford and Dunblane massacres, for more information-if you want to.

Cymrugirl, welcome to THR and its good that more females in the UK are participating in shooting sports.Good luck, with your shooting.

Just wanted to say thanks

:) Thanks for all your replies - it is much appreciated

I live in Midlands now but my roots are in Wales

I had a great weekend at the Midland Game Fair, Weston Park UK and got some excellent tips and advice on shooting.
I purchased a Rizzini Premier Trap O/U which has a higher stock and fits me much better than the Franchi Harrier which I have been using up until now.

Best wishes
Andrea

DonP - Glad to hear you got good hospitality in Wales
