I'm in the process of moving right now so I can't do anything at the moment. However once I get settled at the new place I'm going to start reloading for my 12 GA again. I used to load all of the time as a teenager on a LEE Load All II for small game. I used 700X at that time as that is what I was given with the Load All. I've decided to stick with 700X as it never gave me any issues before.

Now to my question, for those that reload 12 GA shells. Does anyone here use 700X? if so what has been a good proven combo for you as far as wads and a 1 ounce load of shot goes? I'll be using Remington hulls. My old load was comprised of Rem hulls, CCI 209 primers and a Windjammer wad. But try as I might I can't seem to find any info at all on that load. I got my old data from one those IMR load pamphlets that you used to be able to find a gun shops.

Thanks AchAngel, but I looked there and didn't see anything with 700X and the Windjammer wad. That is why I posted the question here, to see if there is another wad that has served others well when coupled with this powder.

Sorry, I looked again and you're right, they don't list your wad with 700X, only with Titegroup. Try giving Hodgdon a call and they might be able to help you. In the past they have been very helpful.

I gave 700x a try a good number of years ago, but I found that using Red Dot and some of the other more commonly used SG powders, offered me an almost endless number of recipe choices. Is there some specific reason why you are adamant about sticking with 700x when there are so many other powders that will offer you easy to find recipes, and still get the job done well.

Finding data for the Windjammer and 700-X is a little hit or miss. If you change either the wad or the powder, it opens up a ton of options for a 1oz load that will perform as well as the WJ & 700-X. My personal go to powder is Red Dot or Promo. Both are cheap, tons of data available, good performance. Only drawback is they're a little dirtier but I'm fine with that. I use a wide variety of wads depending on the load and it's purpose.

CCI=Win209 just in case you want to argue that there is no info for the CCI primer. Don't expect the same results with the CCI as with the Rem209P which is less than, or the Fed 209A with is hotter.
I don't know why they did not push the 1 oz load a little hotter with a pressure only at 9500 and that just pushes the 1250. I guess it is just for the target shooters, but the other powders that you push for small game into the 1300's are devastating on Upland. I know, I know you don't need to go that fast to kill a Dove or a Quail, but speed kills and I like dead especially when I am doing the chasing since my dog like to eat the bite size dove and quail

Win209 can be safely subbed with NobelSport primers, Fiocchi 616s, and similar ones

Speed also results in a LOT of blown patterns, the faster you go, the more flyers you get and the smaller the central core of the payload becomes -results in lost birds, wounded birds and general frustration. We Americans tend to think the bigger and faster is always better - and that just isn't true in every scenario. Some of the best dove and quail loads are the Winchester and Remington clay target loads in 12, 20, and 28
