Specifically the 38 caliber 140 grain penetrator. But I'd also like to hear any Lehigh info regarding game, such as animal, bullet, velocity, pentration, DRT, etc.

I've hunted exclusively with 45 colt in Rugers and Smiths. Bullet weights from 255 to 335 grains. Bullet styles Keith, LBT and XTP. Velocities from 900 to 1300 FPS. Ranges out to 150 yards. I believe what Keith, Linebaugh, and Taylor wrote about is the reason I've had success.

However, I'm intrigued by these Lehigh bullets. Lots of threads and videos out there about gelatin, etc, but not much regarding real world experiences.

Heck, even links would help if you've read something.

A year or so ago I saw a few photos on a muzzleloading forum showing a deer killed by a Lehigh bullet from a smokeless muzzleloder. The bullet looked like a wadcutter only it was some sort of gilding metal. It also had 4 ridges on the top. The deer was destroyed. It was inedible as far as I could tell from the photos. They found pieces of bullet everywhere in it. The lungs, guts, heart were all like jelly. Everything they showed was bloodshot.

I hunt so I can have deer to eat not to act like a dopey teenager who wants to "blow something up." I would never consider using one of those bullets for hunting.

The Xtreme Penetrators showed promise in watusi and water buffalo back in September. I wouldn't spend that much on a bullet for deer though, excepting the .300BO.

I absolutely think the lehigh stuff is worth a look. The expanding sub sonic 30 cal bullets are EXCELLENT. If a wrong bullet is selected for the animal or weapon used, then I would expect you would have the mess that "blows up" a bit too much.

I would think the penetrating pistol bullets have promise for some situations. The solid copper bullet should be tougher than a hard cast bullet, so I would think it could penetrate better on tough targets. Whether or not the nose flutes disrupt tissue is up for debate, but the way I see it is that it would just be a bonus. Doubtful it would be as effective as a hollowpoint for disruption, but it is for a different kind of target all together. MAX penetration with ANY additional tissue disruption should be a win win I think.

This is exactly what I've been thinking. Special situations, where you don't expect to shoot, but may have to. Say hiking in bear, mountain lion or timber wolf country.

Thanks CraigC for the info.
