I have a Hornady electronic powder scale that has never worked very well. It eats battery's even when turned off. I have to remove the battery or else it drains it. Unfortunately this model came without an ac adapter:mad: wish I knew that before buying it. I'm sending it back just wondering how they are to deal with? Or can anyone recommend a electronic scale that works?

I have had experience with Hornady Service at least twice. Each time they were great. For a electronic scale try the PACT. Midway has them on sale every now and then. I think I got the scale AND dispenser for about $100 a year ago.

Word of caution about electronic scales. People complain that they "drift" and are not very stable. The scales needs to be warmed up for 15-30 minutes before use. AND, it needs a stable voltage to work properly. If you plugged a scale into a circuit that is shared with other equipment that "cycles" (Like refrigerator, compressor, beer tap, etc.) your line voltage will fluctuate several volts. This causes the scale to drift accordingly. To prevent this and have an accurate, trouble free electronic scale, get a "regulated" computer surge suppresser and use that to power your scale.

You will be amazed at the difference in scale performance.

kumma,
Hornady customer service is very good and they should take care of you. Like all big companies I have run into the occasional newbie there that would send me the wrong parts or be clueless. If that happens just call back later and get someone else.

Heed Waldog's advice these are exactly the reason people have issues with electronic scales:

I have a Cabalas electronic scale I paid $40 in the bargain cave and it has been great; looks just like the PACT. It came with the AC adapter but I found the battery to be the best for my situation because of the afore mentioned electrical interferences.

I e-mailed Hornady service to ask how to get a .223 sizer button, as I had broken one getting a stuck case out of a .223 sizer die,(my fault). There was no way to order one anywhere the I could see. I also destroyed the decapper stem. The responded the next day to say the referred parts would leave their shipping room the next day. Within 4 days of e-mailing them, I had a new style threaded stem, nut, decapper pin, AND sizer button, NO CHARGE!.

I'd call that excellent service, from anybody.

As far as electronic scales, my green pact,(pact made the scales for RCBS), has performed great for ten years. I partnered it up with a pact digital dispenser 6 years ago, it too has worked perfect.

I did about the samething. I was getting green slim on my case shoulder so I sprayed it out with some gun scrubber. let it dry and then went back to sizing with Hornady One shot. First case stuck like chuck. Called them and like you said 4 days later I had all the new parts in hand. Even though I told them that it was not a defect it was operator error or more the fact that I used the seating stem to beat the stuck case out of the die.

I actually called them yesterday because I jacked up the gearbox on my case feeder (fix it until it's broke...). even after admitting that it was my fault and that I'd like to pay for it, they declined.

Good service IMO.

don't know where you're at in Michigan, but if you're anywhere in the SW part of the state, make a trip to the new Cabella's in Hammond, IN. They had a PACT in the bargain cave that was about 40% or more off IIRC. They also had one of the new Lyman's that is the dispenser, meter marked $100 off.

Over the years, I have dealt with Hornady's customer service more than a few times. They have been great! RCBS and Dillion are top notch as well. Lyman customer service sucks..IMO. Hope this helps.

Well they replaced the scale under warranty with a new model for no charge. I'm pleased with the service, and ill continue to buy Hornady products.

I've not had to use their support, but I have heard nothing but good things. Don't have any advice on the electronic scale... I like the old school beam scale (got a new hornady scale for cheap at a gunshow).

I use and prefer the RCBS 750 scale but you should find Hornadys C.S. very helpful. At least they have been in my own personal experience.

I bent my Hornady dies .223 zip spindle and shattered the expander ball bottoming it out on a case on initial setup. Called and they figured out what had happened with two questions (I already knew that I was at fault). I asked to buy the broken parts and the tech said that was not necessary. Got the parts in the mail 3 days later for free.

The tech also gave me "permission" to take .005-.010" off the base of the resizer die with my lathe to fix a problem. Seems the dies bottomed out on the plate didn't do the last .003 of resizing and resized cases wouldn't fit in a Wilson max gauge. His "permission" was also his word and guarantee that if that did not work, to send it in and they would figure out the problem and make it right for free. .004" off the base and it sizes perfect now. :D

Service can't get any better than that in my book!

I broke the decapping pin off of my 9mm Luger die the first time I set it up... Tried tightening the die into the press with the ram all the way up, and the turret press turned. SNAP.

Called them and told them what happened, and they sent me an upgrade to the "Zip Spindle." I offered to pay, but they said no.

Great people. Great service. Their phone message when you call in is funny too. I wish more companies were like them.

That was freakin' comedy! I'm glad that I wasn't there in person to ask these questions. I wouldn't have been able to keep a straight face!

Last time I called them, I told them they had a customer for life, just because of that message. :)
