+! On Ga Arms
Stephen Camp did a test on the flavours of FBI load out there including the Ga arms variant. I think its on his
http://www.hipowersandhandguns.com/
board.
His test determined what I suspected when I first saw this round - the lead would be too hard/hollow point too small for it to be an efficient self-defense round (of course if thats all you have handy, thats different) compared to the standby Remington R38S12 158 fr round.
BUT....the Ga Arms round, priced / loaded as it is is an excellent substitute
at $ 9.75 / 50 ($ 11.50 incl shipping) for PRACTICE, seeings how 50 rds of R38S12 will run you over $ 20 bucks BEFORE shipping.
So I order 200 rds of the Ga Arms stuff every couple of weeks to practice withand every couple of months replace my FBI load carry ammo.
However lately, I've decided to go with Buffalo Bore's "standard pressure" 158 gr SWCHP based on a review of this section of the board. Firing a box through my Taurus M85 I assure you it doesn't "feel" standard pressure (admittedly my hand felt recoil is less than scientific) but it is every bit as stout as the Remington FBI load and Ga Arms version.
Next weekend when my latest shipment of this BB round comes in, i think I will run a few through my 3" bbl SP 101. I'm guessing the extra weight of the Ruger might make it a fairly easy round. Not that it's uncontrollable in my other snub, just a bit easier to practice with. Might even use this round in my SP 101 when I carry it as well.
