Some friends and I had our annual shootout last weekend, bluerocks, rifles and pistols at steel, paper target shoot, etc. One of the guys had an old 9mm Hi Point carbine there. For some reason he'd screwed with the sites, front post was off, don't remember what was up with the rear. He'd put a laser on it, I guess it was his CQB rifle, LOL. Anyway one of the other guys had some 9mm tracers. Using those you could see where to aim with what sites were left, and after that you could actually hit steel at 100yds pretty easy. Thats the first time I've ever shot one of these, decided that even as butt ugly as it is, it really wasn't that bad of a small carbine. Always wanted a Camp 9 or something like that, but never bought one. I've got a Glock in 40S&W and was thinking the 40 might be kind of fun in a carbine setup. Just wondered if anyone has bought one of these abominations lately, and if so how do you like it? Thanks. Greg

i havnt bought one "Recently" ( 6 months ago) but they are UGLY RELIABLE and ACCURATE. nothing less. the BEST BUY in firearms today if yo ask me

I have one. Got one of the ATI stocks (HERE). Added a cheap 4X AO scope on see-through rings. Rigged up a peep sight under the scope to use with the front sight. Man, it's fun to shoot!

I'd like to have one of the ATI stocks, but they don't make one for the 40S&W carbine. Looks like it would be a lot more ergonomic than the Hi Point stock. I don't have a 9mm, so I figure I'll go for a 40. Local shop has a new one for $250, but I know a private dealer that should cut me a lot better price to order one. Thought this might make a good truck gun. Greg

Five years ago isn't quite "lately" but I still like the carbine. It's reliable, accurate and a lot of fun.

Not lately. Four years ago I bought a non-functioning one for $50 and then sent it to High Point. They completely refurbished it for free.

I don't own any Hi-Points, but I have shot most of their models at some time over the years. Not the most AP {Aesthetically Pleasing} firearms out there, but they go Bang! on request every time, and put the lead where you point.

For under $200, what more can you ask?

Hey, Hi-Point...start selling that .45ACP carbine already, will ya ? ? ?

Just bought a 9MM Carbine from Hi-Point. Had it 2 weeks and I have already put 300 rounds through it. It's definitely a fun little rifle. It tends to not like Blazer Aluminum ammo that much, but that's not really a concern of mine. Anything brass though, it digests with much vigor and confidence.

I recommend buying one of these. They are worth the price!
Trigger's a little rough, but I plan on disassembling it and giving it good polishing with a Dremel.

I've had mine for about 2 years, and it is an absolute blast. I put the ATI stock on, moved the front sight back, and painted the blade green. It's easy to shoot and WAY cheap. Great fun for the money.

I bought mine about 3 weeks ago. Basically I just second what everyone else said....it is ugly, it is cheap, it shoots, its pretty accurate (given the pistol cartridge it fires), and its reliable. Also agree that the ATI stock appears to be a big step up from the original, actually just purchased one yesterday.

I have only put 100 rounds through it but i had no problem smashing clay birds at 50 yards with the supplied open sights. Given some of the other sights I have used, I am actually pretty happy with the little carbine's supplied sights. Quick follow up shots are no problem at all.

I would love to know if anyone has had any success improving/replacing the trigger though - it is a little rough out of the box. Please speak up if you have!

I have had mine for about a year and I can eco the thoughts above, very ugly, but quite accurate and reliable little package. Both of my sons want one, and one of my nephews is planning on getting one now that he is 18.

Yea...I've had a 995 for two years now bought used at a gun show for $125. Great performer. Anyone who likes ghost ring sights and light recoil should give one a try even if they are ugly.

9mm Hi-Point Carbine

I've had my 9mm Hi-Point Carbine for about a year. I haven't shot it a lot..... perhaps 300 to 350 rounds. It functions perfectly. I can't think of any other carbine chambered for a pistol round that is a better buy. It's fun to shoot and pretty accurate too.

Hmm. Mine's been back to the factory 3 times, having to pay next day delivery every time. For a while it was used as my HD gun, but that ended when I took it to the range only to find the safety fell off, rendering it INOP.

When it works, a fun and accurate gun. Gets lots of use with the red dot. Personally I don't have a problem with the factory stock, pretty darn ergonomic to me.

Chris,

Why would you have to send it "next day delivery"? It's a long gun, so ground shipment should be perfectly acceptable.

Also, what was wrong with it that required sending it back 3 times?

I'm not saying that problems couldn't happen with this carbine. It's just that problems are certainly not the norm with this gun from what I've heard and read.

chris sorry about your bad experience, but you seem to still have an open mind and appreciate the carbine for what it is, good cheap fun. i suspect you just got a lemon.

like any mass produced product, a bad one is bound to get through. how ever the differance between a Hi Point and say a Storm carbine is that you can buy 2 or 3 hi points for the price of the storm. and keep the best one :p

Also, couldn't you send the other two that don't work back to the factory for free, leaving you with a working carbine while the other two are repaired?

I haven't bought one yet, but my dad had a 9mm carbine for a while before selling it. I shot it a few times, and I guess I just don't like long guns with pistol grips. I might buy one though in the future. I'm a college student, so I don't have a lot of money, so a Hi-Point would make a fun little gun to shoot. It'd be nice to be able to pick up ammo at Wally World and the like. (Two of my guns, as you can see, use metric Commie calibers) Pistol ammo is WAY cheaper than the centerfire rifle ammo I'm used to buying.
