Anyone CCW while out for a run?

I am an avid cyclist and mountain biker and I have considered this question many times, even though I do not yet have my CHL and do not currently carry on the bike.

The thing is when you are out on a bicycle or running, you are a sitting duck. With a bicycle it's even worse since you are riding on a rather valuable theft target anyway. Many cyclists who ride on trails around here return to their car to find it has been robbed because it's obvious that a car parked on the street near the trail head with an empty bike rack on it is going to be unattended for an hour or more. Just too easy for crooks to case it.

On top of that, some of our urban trails are well known for drug dealer activity, and I like to ride my mountain bike at night in the summer time on these trails. I don't think I'd ever go out there if I was not armed or in a large group.

I am considering a belly band. Lycra clothing and IWB don't exactly mix. No way to quickly get to a weapon in a jersey pocket or a hydration pack methinks.

For me, I don't. I don't have any pockets in my shorts so I run with keys in one hand and a knife in the other. Smart carry would be a bad idea......that would get soaked with sweat in a quick hurry.

Glock 30 in Smartcarry......will carry Ket-Tec p3AT once I buy the clip

I bought the Camelback Goblin thinking it would be a good carry method but that darn thing is huge! I can't imagine walking around wearing it much less trying to run with it.

Did you put it on your back? I think the weight distributes nice and evenly. If you are determined to run far, and you need fluids, this is the way to go for me. After a while it gets lighter as you drink.

Plus, you can hide a gun in it as well...

Yep, I've tried it on my back and it's somewhat tolerable there but still not great. The fact that I'm a 5'4 woman might play into it seeming very big to me. <g>

I've biked with a camelbak backpack and put the gun in a smartcarry. That seems to work for me, but I'm wearing jean shorts for the ride. That probably wouldn't work as well in biking shorts.

We live in Houston and my wife and I jog about 6 miles most everyday. I CCW a G-26, spare mag, cell phone, I-Pod, house key.
I use Smart Carry and I also use the Glock Sports Holster.
I carry at about 4 O'clock.
Only suggestion I will offer for Smart Carry is to 1st put on a thin pair of running shorts and then the Smart Carry - and then another pair of shorts over that. The reason, at least for me, is that when I jog the Smart Carry will rub me real raw like sand paper, but the above trick works great.

You will not have a problem with either one.

Thanks, gamboolman....

Yep. .45 Commander in a Galco fanny pack while biking. (I quit running a few years ago as it was pounding my knees to something less than original equipment.)

For hiking I usually carry in an outside pack pocket.

For stream fishing I usually carry in a WWII style shoulder holster inside my waders.

So, while I maybe didn't answer your question, I hope I provided some ideas for other outdoor activities. :)
